It just occurred to me that non of the Apple products including Macbook Pro support A2DP!
I bet it has something to do with Mac OS X. Since the iPhone sports OS X, it will inherit the same deficiency.
What do you think? Any developers out there that can confirm this?

It's definately a problem with OSX... Wish they would fix it. Earlier versions of Leopard had an A2DP service app. I cannot find this in the newer builds (current) of Leopard. Anyone know / able to talk about this? My car stereo support A2DP and I would love to stream things from my Macbook / iPhone to it!

I've got a stack of Bluetooth accessories waiting to get tested with the iPhone. A big shame they're all just sitting there collecting dirt!

I was bummed to learn that my new state-of-the art iPhone (and iPod replacement) sent Bluetooth audio in glorious... MONO! Especially cuz I coulda bought a Samsung Blackjack a year ago, and been enjoying wireless stereo sound.
I'm not so technical, but it doesn't seem to me that the OS should be the problem, because the A2DP support is already included in the Bluetooth software stack on the iPhone. If you go to the huge Legal statement in General Settings > About (which, BTW, is a great place to play w/ the finger-flicking scrolling), it says the Bluetooth is licensed from a company called Open Interface. You go to their website (oi-us.com), and all they talk about is their great Bluetooth stereo.
On some of the other boards, there's suggestions that Apple deliberately crippled the iPhone's A2DP until they can get their own Bluetooth stereo headset ready. Hate to think that's the case, but it seems to fit the facts...

the only Bluetooth headset on the radar is the mono one for talking. There's not a peep about a Bluetooth stereo headset from Apple. I doubt this is the case. I know for a fact it's not available on my macbook pro --- lets me to believe it has to do with how the A2DP protocol can't or hard to implement on OSX.
