We’re used to hearing about people getting rowdy at game console launches, but this is one of the first attempted muggings that I’ve heard of at a phone launch. Steven Levy was being interviewed by Fox news when a man ran up and wrestled a device from the reporters hands.

What is really interesting is that the guy didn’t go for the iPhone that was right there, he instead grabbed for the reporters mic. It’s clear that he didn’t just grab the wrong device, as the two were very close together. No, if you listen very carefully to the audio he says “give me the f*cking mic.”

I’m actually kind of amused by this. The guy is obviously an idiot, he grabs for a mic and runs. What did he really plan on accomplishing? It’s a wireless mic, so it cut out shortly after he grabbed it, and he didn’t stick around long enough to impart any words of wisdom upon us. Plus, you just mugged a reporter interviewing a guy with the iPhone in front of a crowd of iPhone lovers. Yea, real brilliant.
On a more ironic note, the reporter jokingly mentioned the need for security while doing the interview. I bet she never thought that someone would actually be going after her mic, rather than the iPhone.

Steve Levey didn’t even try to protect her or anything. What a man!
