Apple may be planning a cheaper USD 99 iPhone sometime this summer, according to RBC analyst Mark Abramsky. It is told that the $99 iPhone will not run on AT&T’s faster 3G. The report also says Apple will start selling updated iPhone 3G.
The Silicon Alley Insider pointed-out:
- The main cost reductions would come from fewer features — not a crappy ‘iPhone nano’ or something without a multi-touch screen. Abramsky thinks it might have a lower-resolution camera, no 3G Internet access or GPS, and a cheaper data plan (~$15/month) with a usage cap. We agree that lowering the monthly bill would help drive iPhone sales, but carriers won’t be thrilled.
- Meanwhile, the iPhone 3G will get feature upgrades, such as a better camera, video capabilities.
There are so many reports like this, we hope Apple would like to say something – whatever.
I don’t get it, with the lack of features, wouldn’t that just be a 2g iphone, like the original?
no its actually worse that the 2g without gps and a few other features apple is just making a cheaper phone so it is more accessible to the public.

I think an iPhone with more than 128MB of memory is a must and possibly a faster processor (although that would affect battery life but then a better battery is needed also) would be the major thing for apple to improve upon. How many times have you seen the message that the phone is low on memory (when running appstore apps) to please restart the phone and try again. Programs would run better and start faster including restarting the iPhone. APPLE PLEASE LOOK AT THE OBVIOUS THINGS FIRST!
Also they already have video on jailbroken phones and an app that make the camera noticeably clearer (claiming the clarity of a 4 megapixel camera and does look a LOT better than the stock 1.3 camera). We need some major improvements and not a tweak here and a tweak there because the jailbreaking community has already done all of that (including copy and paste with apple seems to refuse to develop). Jailbreaking has been one of the reasons the iPhone has sold so well due to the fact that it can be customized and added to and not just this is what it is and we might improve it or we might not. Sorry for the long post but this is my opinion.
