Only the other  this morning we were talking about WildCharge's latest wire-free charging upgrade to accommodate the iPhone 3GS, and now it's sitting on our desk. Based around a mains-powered base-plate and special "skin" case for the Apple smartphone, the WildCharge system is fully approved by Apple and promise protection from bumps and scratches as well as cable-free convenience. Check out our unboxing video and hands-on gallery after the cut.

The WildCharge works via connecting the zero-profile conductive strips on the base-plate with contact-point nubs on the back of the iPhone case. What's special about it is the fact that you needn't line up the phone with the strips; just placing it down at any angle is enough.

The "skin" case for the iPhone is priced at $34.99, while a bundle including the base-plate is $79.99; both are available to order now. We'll have a full review of the WildCharge wire-free charging system for the iPhone 3GS very soon, but until then enjoy the unboxing video and gallery.

Now, if it could sync as well I might be interested but if I’ve got to plug a cable in to sync I might as well let it charge.

  2. Rusty says:

It appears that with the skin on, their is no dock connection. Not good. How about a “skin” with supplemental battery?

  3. Allen says:

I totally agree with u 2. One thing is to make a docking on the side of the pad, but then u loss the point been wire free.

  4. Nick says:

There definitely needs to be dock connection on the end/bottom of the skin because with skin on you can never sync your iPhone or charge it will on the go. That means every time I want to sync my iPhone I will have take the skin off, which really sucks. If your in the car and the battery is running low, guess what you’ve got to pull the skin off again. Looks like the design team needs to go back to the drawing boards and add an external connector at the bottom.

  5. Saúl says:

well you can always sync by WiFi or Bluetooth, im sure the iphone can do that.

im not sure this is a induction charger, the terminal points in the back of the skin suggest a ohmic contact, the distribution can be manipulate to always ensure a potential difference, lousy idea, haha

Apple should learn from Touchstone first,

Dumb….just dumb. What a waste of 80 bucks!!!
