Most of us know already that Apple and China Unicom have been in talks to provide the iPhone 3G to the 400 million mobile phone customers in China. Key bits of info were lacking on the initial reports including how much and exactly when the devices would launch.

Yahoo Tech reports that starting in October China Unicom customers will be able to get the iPhone 3G without a contract for 5,000 yuan or about $732.50. That is a lot of money and is almost as much as the average yearly salary in China.

Customers who opt for a contract and qualifying plans will be able to get subsidies on the phone. The subsidies will range from 893 yuan to about 4,253 yuan. The launch of the iPhone 3G will also mark the official launch of the 3G service for the carrier.
