Pandora Radio, the personalized internet radio service, has launched version 2.0 of its app for the iPhone (iTunes link). Known as one of the most popular iPhone apps on the iTunes App Store, Pandora now include artist biographies, previews for your bookmarked songs (yay!) and the ability to create a new station from a song or artist.

Other interesting features include a song progress bar, cover-flow view for song history and the ability to share stations with friends using Email.
While this update isn't anything revolutionary, it certainly adds features that round out out cool features in the app, like embedded iTunes purchasing.
However, there is something missing, according to an user: the ability to run this application in the background. Or do you think we don't need it?

Is therean Apple policy against it running in the background? Stitcher podcast app is the same way.
There is indeed a policy against it. I think the only thing that runs in the background is the iPod app. That sucks.
jailbroken iphone… get backgrounder from cydia… I use my Pandora all the time w/ it running in the background surfing the web… playing a game… etc… … then if I want to kill pandora either open it and hold the HOME button to kill it or use SBSettings and use the Kill Processes toggle which both of those can be downloaded from cydia as well… simple and easy…
works with any I’ve found thus far… as well as the podcasts…

Now there’s a clear reason to jailbreak ! with Wunder Radio and Pandora I am musically fulfilled !
It’s less of a personalised internet service than a personalised US internet service… That’s the problem with the App Store: it’s terribly insular in its own way.
Look at Null River’s tethering app: yanked from sale because AT&T objected yet the rest of us in the world on different carriers didn’t even get a chance at it.
Even if Pandora can’t stream free stuff outside of its own national boundaries I’m sure it could come up with a suitable tariff for international customers if it tried. I’d certainly consider it strongly if it did so.
The flycast app has the option to run in the background. If you turn on background mode it will launch your selected station in safari and you can then use all other apps with music in the background. This is the only app I have seen with this option.
