A user on MacTalk forum has just discovered Apple’s icon for the next generation iPhone, but --as revealed by the screenshot below-- it looks pretty much the same as the icon for the current iPhone 3G.

A MacTalk.com.au forum thread reveals that the unreleased "iPhone2,1" model that has been previously referenced actually includes its own icon within the iPhone 3.0 SDK. The icon, however, appears identical to the iPhone1,2 model which represents the current iPhone 3G.

I noticed those too – but they did the same thing before the launch of the iPhone 3G. They have to give developers an icon to call in software and they can replace it whenever they want.
All they need to do is throw the new icon in an update whenever.
Mike: Good point. I hope so. Thanks for commenting.
Rhetorical: Is there something wrong with the current form factor?
