Apple have announced a special event on March 17th, where the company will launch the iPhone OS 3.0 Software. As you might expect we'll be live blogging the whole event, kicking off at 10AM PST on the 17th at http://live.slashgear.com/
As well as the new iPhone OS, Apple are also promising the debut of a brand new iPhone SDK. The specific features are still tightly under wraps, but it wouldn't be too much of a surprise to see copy & paste, Flash support and maybe even some of the integrated social networking functionality Palm have been showing off on their Pre smartphone.

Will 3.0 OS be available for the iPhone 3G? or is it designed for the 4G?
i have a feeling the 3.0 software will be for the new next generation iphone
wow 4g really 4g doesnt technically exist its not 4th generation that is the speed of the phones connection there are only two generations of iphone the 2g is 4 gb and runs on edge speeds or 2g then the 2nd gen iphone runs 3g speeds just to clarify lol but 4g speeds are being made in asian countrys they dont even have that yet but u wont see them for ever try like 3 to 5 years 4g runs at 20 megahhretz a second while 3g is only 5 megahertz a second but 3.0 wont be a big deal it will just be stuff like copy/paste horizaontal keyboard blue tooth and push services but apple being apple will probaly do something amazing like im guessing flash on iphone im rocking a google phone right now the master of all phones but i do have an itouch so i follow this to but dont get your hopes up i might not even upgrade cuz my itouch is jailbroken running flash i have limewire on it cydi installer free game amazing no need for 3.0

The google phone master of all phones??? I don’t know about that… I have a g1 phone and I regret getting it instead of the iphone…
I hope its hm… no need for more bluetooth… no need for copy and paste… push uses to much battery… so i hope its horizontal keyboard for mail and text. Thats the only usefull so far.
It is not being “launched” you ding bats, its being shown off/previewed. It won’t be released until June or something when the next iphone comes out.
I’ve had the iPhone 3G about a week now and my list of reasons to return this thing is far outweighing my list of reasons to keep it. I’ll wait till the announcement on the 17th, but right now I am very much leaning towards the BlackBerry Bold…

There are copy and paste, bluetooth applications, and whathever you want after JB. The only thing which is really needed is multitasking
wonder how long it will take until os 3 is cracked. w/ os 2.x some downloads seemed to be available faster than the apple release.

There are rumours around that the iPhone will go through its next redesign in June/July so previewing the 3.0 software now makes a great deal of sense to make sure the developers have ample time to actually write new apps for the new software.
I would also say that the 3.0 software will be available for 3G iphones also – Apple wouldn’t want to risk annoying the millions of us that have bought the 3g iphone in the first place.
In my opinion things like forwarding of SMS messages would be great as would copy and paste but to be quite honest I like my phone as it is – it does everything I want it to and to all the people out there who seem to have forgotten 10 years ago we were all using bricks for phones you need to calm down about things that this phone can’t do – just be happy innovation has led us to where we are now.

Apple is dead the LG arena is going to get all the users that bought the Iphone 3G.
it’s funny how the Iphone gets an update when the LG arena comes out lol.
The LG Arena has all the functions that the Iphone 3G should have had at its first release but instead they were to greedy and users will remember that.
That apple cannot be trusted to look after there own customers.

come on how many teans out there use text forwarding and mms most of them do so why bring a phone out that does not provide basic functions.
i know of at least two folk that sold there Iphone for a much cheaper phone that does alot more than the iphone ever did.
watch this space apple stock will fall in the phone wars to come,
users will remember there attatude later on.
iPhone OS 3.0 will be available on all iPhone generations and on all generations of iPod Touch. Although, to get it on iPod Touch, it’ll cost just under $10 :)
How about a better camera and speakers. They both suck. Plus you can’t send pictures to a phone using the number, WTF?
