Just when I got writing about the the relatively unknown fullscreen web app feature, this comes across my screen! The iPhone 2.2 firmware update apparently had a few secrets of its own that are worth mentioning.
Developers have located these secret features, which are like little nuggets of iPhone treasure. Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating, but it's still pretty cool. One thing uncovered are Emoji, a form of Japanese icon. With 461 characters included on the iPhone 3G now, it is likely this was to please the Japanese market. The icons can be used mid-sentence or as an emoticon of sorts.
Another feature is Street View support in Google Maps. This is a must-have if the phone is to stay on level with the upcoming T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone. One last feature unearthed is the ability to turn off auto-correction while typing. So, if you always found the predicative text feature always guessed what you wanted to say wrong, you can turn it off for good.

Whoa…..let me get this straight, …………the ability to turn off auto correct was higher on the priority list than cut and paste………?????????????WTF???
I think it should be clear by now that the boys and girls at Apple development are in over their heads. I think it behooves us to try to help them figure out how to write a program that could accomplish this. Actually, the folks at Palm figured it out about ten years ago, and since they aren’t doing anything these days, perhaps the guys at Apple should give them a ring and see if they can help. Somebody please help them figure this out.
No cut and paste??? Apple get serious… Take the hint.. listen to your feedback, not including such a trivial feature (that and the ability to forward sms messages) means that you either 1. dont listen to feedback 2.dont care 3. have a completely wacky sense of prioritization and are totally listening to the WRONG people.
in a word : Unbelievable!
By the way Blackberry Storm HAS cut and Paste, a 3.2 megapixel camera with image stabilization and video capability. it also has MMS, , a “week” view in calendar, a removable battery, expandable memory AND the ultimate in “push” technology.
Got some work to do Steve.
Can you make phone calls with it? The kind that don’t drop in 0.5 seconds? Because that would be way cool. Also, I would prefer if turning on 3G wouldn’t instantaneously result in “No Service” in downtown Boston — now that would be really handy.
I want to be able to delete podcasts and song from the phone, and i want to have full bluetooth support so i can send files, i want a videorecording app, i want ichat for it.
Why aren´t you giving us things that cheap phones all have as standard?
Cripple n Go, Rotten Apple!!!
What about sending contacts via SMS? I’m sick and tired of telling nbrs… to others not using Iphones. It is simply unbelievable that a very simply feature on GSM’s phones is not covered. It is not difficult. Just add a button with a “send contact via SMS” and voila… Com’on Apple, be serious…
You don’t seem to understand.
Steve is pushing out as many iphones as possible cashing in on the hype now.
I made the mistake of purchasing the 3G with the expectation of turn by turn directions, voice dialing (automatic), video built in.
Apple did nothing but put a battery draining unstable piece of crap out to cash in. I have to reset my phone up to 5 times a day and don’t get email until I manually check it and then it normally takes a restart.
They still haven’t delivered on push.
I’ve lost all faith in Apple and now compare them with MS in the over promised under delivered Vista.
C-u-t and p-a-s-t-e, not “time to waste”…CUT AND FRICKIN PASTE people!
Apple PLEEEEEEEEASE ADD THE CUT & PASTE FEATURE!!!!! it really should not be that deep to do!!! Why add features such as the emojii and the google street ???? no one really cares for that. How about adding the landscape feature when texting, how about MMS, how about video?? Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase listen to our cries!!!!! It’s not just me!!!!
where is cut and paste? where is the video recorder Apple????We want thatttttt. Please!
I don’t think DOING cut & paste is the big issue here, Apple can surely put the coding in for that easily. I think the problem is, how do you gesture it? Pinch has been used for zoom, and a click here, click there, approach needs 2 include an intuitive backwards or forwards copy, while also scrolling the screen as required, & following any frames on websites.
So come on all you “it’s easy” smarty pants types: how do u cut and paste on a purely gestural interface? (Bear in mind that drag has been used for scrolling & pinch for zoom!)
Why the **** do people want cut and paste on a phone? It’s a ****ing phone for gods sake. Have you heard yourselves crying? You want cut and paste, get a Windows Mobile device and **** off.
