AdWhirl, formerly known as Adrollo and serves 250 million ad impressions of the top 50 Apps in the App Store monthly, revealed the success of some of the top ad-supported iPhone apps.

AdWhirl says that top apps can make $400 to $5,000 per day on ads, averaging an effective CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) near $2. (That sounds terrible compared to a good Web site, but it’s better than Facebook or MySpace apps.)

  1. [sarcasm] If those running a mobile advertising business say you can make $400 to $5,000 per day, it MUST be true. I see no possible conflict of interest. [/sarcasm]

One hint for the future though, putting a lower bound of $400 doesn’t make much sense.
It certainly is possible, and in all likelihood, the common case to make less than $400, even as a top app.

Looking at only the top applications is rather silly, as a top PAID application can generate an order of magnitude more than a top free application. The free application market is possibly more competitive than the paid market.

    Just my 2 cents.
