Innaworks has revealed software that has the ability to automatically port Java games to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Innaworks made a beta version of the software available. The demand for Java support on the iPhone and iPod Touch is high, and has been a point that iPhone critics frequently bring up.

The software is designed to port Java ME games easily to the iPhone. The process was described as 'instant', so for relatively small applications, the software apparently works well. Innaworks hopes to make it an easy process for Java developers to bring their titles to the iPhone. Innaworks' CEO said the iPhone is an excellent gaming platform, and that they were impressed by it's functionality.
"With the expected introduction of iPhone's AppStore in June, iPhone is emerging as a serious gaming platform. We are amazed by the effectiveness of the touch screen and accelerometer on enhancing gaming experience. We expect the early backers among game publishers to significantly benefit from their first mover advantage. alcheMo for iPhone will help mobile game publishers to reach the eagerly awaiting gamers with quality games on iPhone and iPod touch."
A testing period has begun, and developers are are being invited to try out the software, by signing up for a trial on the company website.

This is Jeff for the 2008 JavaOne Conference. For anyone interested in seeing Java on the iPhone, there are going to be a couple of different sessions discussing the topic at the conference. For those iPhone/Java supporters still trying to pull together enough cash to attend JavaOne, the conference is now offering a $200 off priority code (simply iPhone) that you can enter in at the registration.
