I have lamented the fact that the AT&T network in my area leaves a lot to be desired with daily dropped calls and other irritating issues. I have been with AT&T in my area for years and looking back, the network used to be pretty good.

I only had issues with dropped calls after getting my original iPhone shortly after the device launched. According to a report from ZDNet the glut of iPhone users are killing the AT&T network and resulting in poor quality for all users. I guess my experience with my local network could support that theory.
The rub for AT&T and its users is that the average iPhone user uses much more multimedia bandwidth than other smartphone users, mostly because the iPhone actually works for web surfing. This raises an interesting question. If the iPhone goes to other providers and some of the 9 million iPhone users on AT&T defect with their beloved handsets will the quality of the AT&T network improve?

Well I used to have an ericcson 2 years before the iPhone was released and I never had dropped calls either so ….. I don’t know much on how networks work but I’d imagine that the networks can overload aswell correct me if I’m wrong… Now I have an iPhone 3gS and live it bu hate the dropped calls it does it to me up to 3 times a day
Felix, you ” live it bu hate the dropped calls it does it to me up to 3 times a day” What the heck does all of that mean???????????
Sorry but I was typing it on my iPhone and it auto corrects what I Meant is I love my phone the device itself but hate the dropped calls cause of the AT&T network
I’m pretty sure a pretty big number will go back to their previous carrier when all carriers setup for iPhone use and AT&T losses the exclusive rights. AT&T system will not be much better until they fix issues between the Cingular and AT&T equipment, whatever upgrades they are doing, and just get some people in the company that stop making excuses and start giving true facts.
I have a feeling when they finally get their act together the system will run fine.
Let’s hope every upgrade won’t be a mess like this.
If Verizon had it I would switch to them. I have had AT&T, Cingular, the AT&T for over 11 yrs and can’t believe their lack of covered areas especially in N.C. where I visit frequently. Verizon works in the middle of nowhere there.
