Latest iPhone clay-based not silicon

by Chris Davies on August 15, 2007

Starting the day with something funny, we've already seen the knitted iPhone and a very impressive wood & aluminium facsimile, but how about a clay iPhone?  Apparently intended as part of a prank on his wife, Flickr user vaughn235 put together a tactile looking iPhone copy - complete with box and dock - made out of Sculpey Premo modelling clay.   continued »

Audi & Apple boast in-car integration

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

What a happy coincidence: here was me just about to drive a brand new Audi A8 off the lot, when the German firm join hands with Apple and issue a gushing press release about their latest in-car couplings.  No, this isn't some sort of unpleasant cellular dogging experience, it's Audi bigging-up their optional Bluetooth interface which - surprise surprise - is compatible with the iPhone.  There's also a cable on ... continued »

Logic3 unveil first made-for-iPhone travel speakers

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

Frankly, when I first looked at these Logic3 travel-speakers, I wasn't too impressed.  Let's face it, they look a bit cheap and that shiny logo?  Nasty.  But for the price - £29.99 ($60.52) - I suppose you can't argue too much, and that slide-expand motion is quite cool.   continued »

iPhone accidental roaming charges rack up $5k bill

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

Something tells me there'll be a whole lot of people very surprised when their AT&T iPhone bills drop into the letterbox.  For a start, it might not be the envelope you're expecting but, like JustinTV's Justine Ezarik, a great bloody box full of three hundred pages of itemised goodness.  Or, alternatively, you might get another type of huge bill: $5,000 thanks to international data roaming charges, as Adam Aronson discovered.   continued »

iPhone unlocked for use with any carrier’s SIM

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

Could it be true?  Is the iPhone really unlocked?  Well, sit down and steady yourself, because the answer is yes.  Unlike previous methods which required tricky-to-locate v1 SIM cards and external SIM reader/writer drives, over at the Bladox forums they're detailing how to do it with simply a blank TurboSIM and the iPhone itself.  Those who have tried it out report full access to EDGE and SMS as well as incoming ... continued »

WSJ goes inside huge iPhone manufacturing city

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

Willy Wonka bundled up the whole Oompa-Loompa tribe and brought them to live in his chocolate factory; I don't think the 270,000 workers at the Hon Hai factory in Shenzhen, China were at risk of being gobbled up by rotten Vermicious Knids, but they too live in a wondrous place creating items that bring joy to many.  No, not candy, but iPhones, Wiis and Motorola cellphones.  The Wall Street Journal won ... continued »

Google Video workaround for iPhone

by Chris Davies on August 14, 2007

Since YouTube got blocked at work, I've been getting more familiar with what Google Video is offering; to be honest, I prefer it.  Sadly up until now there's been no obvious way to enjoy Google Video content on your iPhone, but with a little lateral thinking (and a reasonable connection) there's a workaround.
