Palm has hired designer, Paul Mercer, a former Apple computer engineer, to begin work on a line of new products, said the spokeswoman, Marlene Somsak. She also explained that Mercer joined Palm with two employees from Iventor, the independent design firm that he headed in Palo Alto, California, but Palm did not acquire the company.

Apple and Intel are buds for everything but chipsets for cell phone. So don’t think for a second that Intel won’t take this opportunity to create a more powerful yet still maintain a low power output for the iPhone’s competitors.

The word “smartphone†has been around for a little while now. But what does it really mean? ABI described a smartphone as an "open, commercial operating system that supports third party applications." Going by this description, the iPhone would not be a smartphone. This of course stirred up a good deal of controversy over what constitutes the name smartphone.
