With all of the official information finally coming down from AT&T, many of our questions have been answered. Of course, every answer seems to bring up more questions. Thankfully we've been in touch with AT&T PR Representative Brad Mays who has happily answered a few of our burning questions. Hit the jump for a transcript of our Q&A.
iPhoneBuzz: What are the estimated units per store?
AT&T: We're not providing the number of units available per store
iPhoneBuzz: When will you allow customers to purchase the iPhone at the no-contract price?
AT&T: We haven't announced when we will offer the no-contract option.
iPhoneBuzz: What is the official policy for customers who purchased new service (did not purchase an iPhone) within the last 30 days?
AT&T: If you buy your new iPhone 3G within 30 days after joining AT&T, you would simply return your current device and then get iPhone 3G for the $199/$299 price.
iPhoneBuzz: Additionally, if the iPhone 3G is out of stock and my 30 days are coming up, what will I need to do?
AT&T: If it's out of stock, you'll be able to pay for the device, and then will be notified when it is available to pick up
If you guys still have questions shoot them our way. We can't make any promises, but we'll do our best to get them answered for you!

Thanks Scott! I would love to know the different process for purchasing at an apple store vs. an AT&T store, as well as whether we must unbox the iPhone in store, or if we can take home to activate, etc.
I am eligible for a discount on service plans with ATT due to an agreement with my employer. I want to know if I will be eligible to get this discount with the iPhone 3G. Thanks!
if they not giving an estimate of units per storeit must be enough so that means like whenever i feel like it i can go pick up a iphone3g i wish its go always be out of stock my upgrade is july 20 but i can get it up to 30 days early
Could you provide more info on ETF?
Buy an iPhone for $199, Pay activation $36, ETF $175, First month’s bill $80 - Am I seeing it right?
Thanks a lot!
Is the data plan a part of the 2 year contract? I will be out of the country for a few months soon, and I want to know if I can turn off the data plan while I am abroad?
I’m still so very confused…
I am currently eligible for an upgrade. My plan as of now is: FamilyTalk Nation 1250 Rollover & Unlimited Night/Weekend & Unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile Minutes, with unlimited text for my device only (there are four handsets in the family plan). When I’m upgrading for iPhone, what changes do I have to make to the plan? Am I supposed to leave the family plan and start a new iPhone plan? if that is the case, then I am seriously about to reconsider getting one…
Help anyone?! =(
Does this mean you can only by the subsidized phone from and AT&T store? Will these same conditions apply if you purchase the phone at an Apple store.
What if I’m giving my original iPhone to my wife? How does the family plan work since I’ll be paying for 3G that will only work on one phone?
Will data plans be $30 for all new iPhones? What if I live hundreds of miles form a 3G network? Nobody can answer this for me! I challenge you!
If I upgrade from the orginal iPhone, take a new 2 year contract to get the new 3g iPhone, can I get the first phone unlocked?
aww yeah will i be knocked out my bundle pack with ATT with this
I am a current AT&T customer does anything with my plan change, do i have to pay extra for anything? I’m not the primanry account holder, we have 1400 shared minutes, unlimited texting, and only some lines have unlimited data.
Once i get the iPhone 3G, will anything change, in ex: 10 extra dollars a month?
Corporate discounts weren’t allowed on the first iPhone plan. Since we are using the already established AT&T plans, will we be able to use the corporate discounts on our plans now?
What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required. Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.
How is it fair that Current AT&T have to pay full price for a iPhone 3G when Steve Jobs at WWDC 08 said they well be 199.99 where ever you go and for a new AT&T they sgin up and get it for half the price? This is Bull!!! There are loyal ATT customers and as for the first time iPhone was sold it was sold for huge price and no discounts where giving now Apple discounts the iPhone AT&T is trying to screw the people they already have, I am sorry but AT&T pull your head out of you $@!
If I had an iphone then gave it to my sister and I purchased another phone will I still b able to upgrade at 199 because I unlocked my iPhone n gave it to my sis… I think I upgraded with an at n t tilt but idk if my name is still under the iPhone account
My iPhone got stolen…but I still have the receipt. I wonder if I’ll still be able to get the upgrade price…
I switched to AT&T June 16th. Was told by my rep I should do it, and that when the iPhone comes out July 11th, I can trade in my temporary phone for the real deal. I told him I will be out of the country until July 16th — the last day of my 30 day hardware/trade-in guarantee, so I would have to hop off the plane and run to AT&T. My in-store rep gave me his business card, and even assured me that even if I was a day or two past the 30 day return policy, I won’t have to worry due to their “customers first” policy and that he would personally make sure I receive an iPhone. Now, I’m on my trip out of the country, and I learned about this wacked out surcharge they”ve come up with and I’m wondering if I’ll be screwed into paying more (which I won’t do). We’ll see if they try to make me pay that new surcharge… I’ll let you know how it turns out, if you’re interested. Seriously, if they hassle me, I will be irate! At the time of my two-year activation, I even insisted that the AT&T retail rep make a note on my account that I’m only switching NOW so I can have a hassle-free phone-number-porting experience for the new iPhone 3G. I even told the rep to make a note on my account that I’m only making the switch for the iPhone.
So here’s my question: I purchased the contract in Corona, CA June 16th. I’ll be back in the U.S. (San Francisco) July 16 (the 30th day of my 30 day guarantee). If I run into the SF AT&T store, can I return my non-apple phone for the iPhone at the 199-299 price? In other words, am I eligible under the hardware guarantee??? I have the receipt, even the box and charger, and original bag!
Another individual I read on a blog post actually switched to AT&T in MAY (got cheap phones with the intention of going to the iPhone once it was released) — after much hassle, an AT&T supervisor said he would flag his account which meant he could upgrade to the iPhone anytime under the 199/299 pricing plan. I only want the 199/299 pricing too, because I switched early because my contract with Verizon ended and was told I could upgrade when the new phone came out (NOT PAY SOME CRAZY PREMIUM!). Anyway, if you could ask the powers that be– that would be great. Thanks.
you know even the 6 year old kids who make these phones in the sweatshops don’t whine as much as you babies do. whaaa whaa whaaaa. shut up. it is a phone. your life will go on.
I drank the apple juice for a long time but this year it’s become appauling clear that I am nothing more than a wallet to Apple. My friends laughed a little when I went over to windows mobile and then windows desktops but i’ll tell you it was worth it. I’ll never admit it to them but they were right all along
@ whaaa
Some of us have to work for our money, not having our daddies and mommies buy us every fucking thing we would like.
The difference between $199/299 and $399/499 is important to some of us
