Unlocking the iPhone

So it seems like all anyone is talking about these days is how to unlock the iPhone. And why not? It’s big business. Those that are steadfast against using AT&T need a way to enable their phones to work on other networks, and a “SIM swap” is probably the best way to go about it.

The people over at GSMPhone-Unlocking have created a video that lets you see an iPhone 3G switching sim cards without the use of adapters. This is a software only deal. And though details on the software aren’t available yet–the video just shows the results, mainly–it will be available free to download soon.

Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see how they did it in detail.

  1. PROOF THIS IS BULLSHIT says:

I call bullshit on this video.

In Canada, Rogers and Fido are THE SAME NETWORK. Yes, Rogers, OWNS Fido, and the Network ID of Fido, is, as you guessed, Rogers.

The only difference is that the iPhone displays the Network Name as set in the SIM card. i.e. you could set the network name to “Who’s your daddy” and that’s what will show in the upper left.

Darn, and I had my hopes up for a SIM unlock too. :(
