According to iLounge’s tipster, the next-generation iPhone will come in six versions –three models each with two storage options: (1) standard 3G; (2) “enhanced 3G” (HSPA); and (3) China version. In term of its size and design, still similar as the current model.

Each of the three versions has been made to match the telecom systems of specific countries, so users in one country shouldn’t expect to have the option between a “slow iPhone” and “fast iPhone.” As before, you’ll get capacity options and different colors.

I would like them to do a iPhone 2G lower priced and focused at Pay as you go customers.
Theo: you don’t want a 2G iPhone. I still have the original iPhone. Two years ago, I was able to get 230 kbps on EDGE. Since then AT&T has pretty much trashed the EDGE network. I can now only get 20 to 30 kbps today.
I’m sure that AT&T has been deliberately lowering the speeds and functionality of the EDGE network to force people to upgrade, spend money, and to get locked-into a 2 year agreement.
AT&T is getting rid of the EDGE network in favor of the 3G network. They aren’t doing anything more deliberate than following up on what they said they would do. Get the 2G phone unlocked and use it on t-mobile’s network.

we do have prepaid iphones here in europe; seems like att doesnd like to go ahead with prepaid plans for internet. i think this is the finale point.
