So with the advent of the new iPod Touch what can we expect in the way of accessories? It's thinner than the iPhone and the newly-named iPod Classic, so what can you use with the iPod Touch?

Well it uses Apple's universal connector so in theory anything with that port should work, but that's about it. The cases aren't suitable because, as I already said, its thinner. But the thinness of the iPod Touch could do away with the need for anything more than an empty pocket and a screen protector. Surely with Apple having finally released a full-screen widescreen iPod someone is going to have to make a belt buckle out of it, that's almost a mandatory accessory!

With the fairly long battery life, there isn't much of a reason to demand a custom-fitted battery extender, although if someone were to do that, as thin as the Touch is, even with an extended battery it would only be as thick as the 5th-gen iPods. Anything else for any previous iPods that uses the dock connector should work, so there's already a pretty impressive swathe of accessories for the Touch; the only problem might be looseness in docks specifically designed for the thickness of older iPods.

Sadly there was no mention of Bluetooth streaming in the new iPod Touch; not too big of a surprise considering the new iPod is just a stripped version of the iPhone and it doesn't have the A2DP stereo profile. But the headphone jack appears to be the same too, meaning you'll likely need an adaptor to use third-party headphones since the port is recessed.
