iPhone firmware 2.2 already jailbroken!

We have reported several of the new changes that we will be seeing here in the next iPhone firmware version 2.2. What may come as a surprise is that the iPhone Dev Team has already been able to jailbreak it. Is there anything they can’t do?

It seems that every times a new version comes out the iPhone Dev Team is able to crack it sooner than the last time. There is no way that they could crack it any sooner than this, the official release date of the 2.2 firmware has not even been announced. These guys deserve a real pat on the back for their quick efforts to keep the ball rolling for iPhone owners. Now users do not have to wait to get all the new features and still have a jailbroken iphone.  All they have left to do is unlock the iPhone which seems to be a very hard task, but they are showing great improvements in that area as well.

I’m really curious and this is an honest question – I’m not just trying to piss jailbreakers off – but why jailbreak your phone? What can you get from doing it that you can’t get out of the app store or from iTunes? Is money the primary factor in jailbreaking the iPhone, is that you can get apps to it without paying for them? I really don’t know. Is it just the thrill of accomplishment? But hey check out Bike or Die 2 when it hits the app store – I had it for the Palm OS and it was killer.

apple has a LOT of restrictions on what they let into their app store as far as i know so i guess they cant get everything from the appstore

  5. Bario says:

One reason to jailbreak Iphone are the apps that apple do not allow on iphone store. For example: fring that can also work using the iphone 3g capability and not only the wifi.

The other is the simplest of all, an app that can forward an sms. How can a phone so technologically advanced still not be able to do the simplest process that a chinese no name brand for 10 $ can do. FORWARD SMS
