Hong Kong iPhone Unlock has 22x markup

Never ones to let a potential scam go uninvestigated, the Gizmodo boys released their Hong Kong wolfhounds to check out the 100% Unlocked iPhone! offer seen last week.  Turns out the service will be decidedly familiar to anyone who has been reading MY iTablet lately: they’re basically selling iPhones that have been pre-unlocked with an $80 TurboSIM.

100% unlocked iPhone offer uses $80 TurboSIM method

The store, G-World in Mong Kok, has priced the 100 handsets it has in stock at a whopping HK$13,800 ($1,765) each, and claims that until it has sold them all it won’t be offering an unlock service to customer’s own iPhones.  Still, that might not actually be much of a hardship, since it plans on selling a basic unlock for $767.

I live in hong kong and called them the shop is G World Mobile on Argyle st. in Mongkok, it is in the Sincere building 1st floor shop F112. There number is 2396-6900 and that is a rip off please don’t give them patronage. I am sure a better unlock is soon. Hong Kongers will pay it though as they bought Burberry masks during SARs

jsu wonder how much u sell the apple iphone and if i only wan to buy the turbo sim card u got sell or not? how muhc is ur shipping to malaysia n how long will reach?

Isn’t it suppoesed to be 2.2x markup.. or more like 1.9x considering ($1765 – 600)/ 600 = 1.94. 22x would make it US$13,200. That would be pretty crazy.

Looks like the calculation was done without converting for currency. $HK600 for an iPhone would be US$76. Now that’s crazy.

In case any of you want to know what is a rip off then go to ebay, ther is a company who has 5 Turbo Sims and already bids are at more than US$500 per turbo sim. This is not even taking into consideration you can do the cloning. So what does $1750 mean whaen you know it works. I will pay it, point is I am not in HK. Anyone know a website I can go to to buy one from HK using Paypal ?
