GUI for adding Custom Ringtones to iPhone [UPDATED]

Back when we reported the instructions for adding custom ringtones to your iPhone, my one request was an easier way to manage the process. Well, IRC busy-beavers have done the business and produced iFuntastic, a GUI for the Jailbreak application which makes adding ringtones to the otherwise locked-down iPhone possible.

iFuntastic iPhone GUI for modding

Unfortunately if you haven't got an Intel-based Mac you won't be able to use iFuntastic at the moment, but as ever if you do try it please let us know the results in the comments!

Update: I confirm that iFuntastic! works. It turned out that JailBreak is built into the application. To make it easy, bring up Activity Monitor and keep an eye on the app iFuntastic!. The app will hang right at step number 4 if you don't put the iPhone into Recovery Mode fast enough (press and hold the Home and Sleep button together for roughly 25 seconds). So if the iFuntastic! process hangs, kill it and JailBreak and start over.

Also it's important to kill iTunes and iTunes helper. I hope this helps --- Vincent.

Once again I find myself wishing I was a Mac inlieu of it’s ugly cousin. Does anyone know when ‘IFuntastic’ will be available to us IBM folks?

Please do not advise to buy a Mac as I would if I could….

Awesome! Just.. follow the direction and everything works fine. The hardest part is picking a song to use and tearing it apart in garageband till it actually sounds like a ringtone. Some songs I thought would work great, I just can’t choose a decent starting/ending point.

I got it to work a few times by following the directions above. It took me a few tries before I got it to work. I start holding down the menu/lock buttons about ten seconds before I click unlock(while still holding the two buttons), it seems to help. If it freezes for more than a few minutes, kill the jailbreak process and start again. If it fails the phone makes a weird noise, so that might help you realize if it is frozen or if it failed.

Another thing I found is that iTunes is capable of converting music files to m4a format. You need to go to your advanced settings and change the importing setting to AAC Encoder. I suppose you can use Quicktime to chop music files into reasonable lengths and save them as a WAV and convert that WAV into m4a.

If anyone has an easier way of converting songs into m4a, please let me know, this is the first way I found.

great! Now, how about taking care of us power pc users please!!!!
Or can I do this on my intel mac and then sync using my power pc that has all my back-up info and not lose my ringtones?????

this GUI takes longer and is a little more difficult than a new XP based GUI. i tried iPhone Ring Tone Maker, it works, and is easier to use. All you have to do once the tones are loaded is turn the phone off and turn it back on.

  10. crash says:

ifuntastic works fine. you do not need to make m4a’s mp3’s work fine on the phone.

I activated my iPhone on a Mac. Tried the Mac version to load ringtones but keep getting stuck. Can I use the PC version “iPhone Ring Tone Maker” to load the ringtone? I actually did try that out and it sent the ringtone to the phone but after I turn off and restart the ringtone does not show up.

    Any suggestions?

how bout for the pc, anybody?

  13. Rich says:

Why can’t they ever make PPC versions of these things? Is it so hard to compile? Is there some technical reason why a PPC version cannot be made?

  14. Rich says:

This does not work for me. Jailbreak fails each time. Maybe it’s the new 1.0.2 update?

  15. It works for me! Thanks for the guide.
