Google Talk Gadget web app for iPhone? [UPDATED]

Updated: July 7, 2007 - No go for Google Talk - still requires adobe flash version 8 or higher.

It looks like YouTube isn’t going to be the only application that Google is making available on the iPhone. There seems to be a web base version of Google Talk called Talk Gadget. Visiting this URL via Safari will pop up the following page, allowing you to log into your Google Talk account. If you don’t have an account, don’t worry because there’s an option for you to create one.

Just so that you know… even though other people might be going iPhone crazy, and reporting things in weird ways, not everyone has to post misleading commentary about web services that have been around for a while. Because Google Talk is based off of the open source Jabber, an HTML client has been around for a while now. I noticed it first when someone IMed me on a computer without Google Talk on it. I just happened to be signed into Gmail, and the interface come up through that. Worth noting however, Google app needs a width of around 340 pixels, and the iPhone is 320 pixels. It will likely shrink it gladly and automatically, but its more evidence that this gadget wasn’t explicitly created FOR the iPhone. It’s just a happy accident.

what about the fact that it’s flash. And the iPhone won’t use flash. hm…

  3. Mark says:

Sorry, it’s Flash based. Won’t work on iPhone. There is a non-Flash Google Talk in GMail, but it won’t work on Safari.

So nope, no Google Talk on iPhone :(
