iRadio is basically the “JesusApp” of the iPhone. It is an app we had all been looking forward to and when it was finally released, our jaws dropped in amazement. Well, iRadio still isn’t the application it could be. Though there is a small team of developers, they seem to be hitting the right spot for the users, and continue to do so in every update.

iRadio Application

Be sure to hit the cut for my opinions of what could be included in future updates to make iRadio the ultimate application for the iPhone.

First of all, the iPhone has EDGE. EDGE isn’t really too great and cant handle a lot of streams on Shoutcast. What we need to solve this problem is a filter for stations above 96Kbps in bitrate when the phone is only in EDGE area. Keeping it at 96Kbps ensures a steady, skip-less, decent quality stream. Anything higher than 96Kbps skips on EDGE and probably shouldn’t be used without WiFi.

Second, we really need the volume control back. It appears the devs left it out of the application after putting it in just a version before. Right now you still need to go back to iPod and change the volume via the slider and then go back into the application.

Third and final, we really need ability to upload either our own .pls Shoutcast playlist files, or enter our own stream links. Radio stations on Shoutcast are often mislabeled making it impossible to find your favorite station on the go.

The iRadio app is already a great application and was definitely something everybody could use. Hopefully the iRadio devs take these helful suggestions into thought.
