After Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen declared that the Flash development team were looking at the iPhone SDK with creating an Apple-specific version of the software, many assumed the launch of iPhone Firmware 2.0 would coincide with a Flash client appearing for download in the AppStore. Sadly that may be further off than was thought: the company has had to release a qualifying statement explaining that, in its present form at least, the SDK and, more so perhaps, the licencing structures Apple are insisting on are not sufficient for an iPhone Flash player.
“Adobe has evaluated the iPhone SDK and can now start to develop a way to bring Flash Player to the iPhone. However, to bring the full capabilities of Flash to the iPhone Web-browsing experience we do need to work with Apple beyond and above what is available through the SDK and the current license around it” Adobe statement
The key frustrations seem to be the ban on background processes, where Apple is insisting that third-party software must exit once a user switches to another app and cannot continue running in the background, and the inability to develop plugins for Safari on the iPhone. While Adobe could likely still create a standalone Flash client, similar in functionality to the existing YouTube player on the cellphone, this would not give the same experience of Flash as on a desktop computer, where content is embedded into the webpage.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will work with Adobe and grant them dispensation, above and beyond the current terms of the SDK, to develop a plugin for Safari that would satisfy Steve Jobs’ criticism of the current Flash software.

Don’t expect to see Flash anytime soon on anything from Apple other than an IMac. Steve Jobs has no intentions on supporting or paying for a competing media player. Especially on the iPhone or AppleTV. These two platforms stand a chance of making Apple the multimedia 800 # gorilla it was in the mid nineties and Mr. Jobs wants that crown back.
you make a good point – it’s still pretty sad though bc flash is so, so important especially for watching porn :)
A “bar sinister” (red circle with diagonal slash) has the slash running from top left to lower right. You or someone else has used what I call a “bar doughebag” which is a circle/slash combo done by someone ignorant in the ways of wordless communication.
Shame, flash is going to be essential for good content going forward. Not everyone has time to port code to the SDK.
@markcih Get a life mate. How many people looked at that and thought “what does that mean? – I’m confused, I mean if the cross bar went from top left to bottom right it would be _obvious_, but that way round, dang I’m not sure”.
I’m sharing this submit on Facebook as I could not concur a lot more.

Kobe Bryant is another notable player who was drafted instantly out of higher university. Kobe was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996, but was instantly transferred to the L.A. Lakers. He won three championship titles with group companion Shaquille O’Neal in the 2000-2002 NBA seasons. When O’Neal departed the Lakers, Kobe has confirmed that he is competent to lead his group even without Shaq. He awarded the MVP cup in 2008, and led the Lakers to a championship in 2009.
