I’m not convinced that Apple stole this technology from Citrix. And if they did, boy oh boy, is Apple going to get it from Citrix (wink-wink). I sense a hint of we hate you Apple coming from The Register – perhaps it’s just me being a little sensitive with all the Apple bashing going around ☺. Anyways, according to The Register, they were unable to locate a trademark for the Citrix Visual Voicemail, so I think Apple and Cingular may be in the clear.

So what exactly is Visual Voicemail (also watch video above)? Visual Voicemail allows you to have a visual view of the number of voicemail messages right on your iPhone, enabling you to randomly select the ones you want to listen to without going through each one in chronological order. Of course, Citrix has been offering this feature since it acquired Net6 in 2004. The technology is currently being used in Cisco’s IP phones.

Citrix has yet to respond to The Register’s request for comment about its feelings on the Visual Voicemail matter. This will be interesting to see how it plays out down the road.
