$20 says you can replace the iPhone battery yourself

Since Apple clarified exactly what was meant by their battery replacement program there’s been various grumblings and mutterings about the lack of a user-replaceable battery for the iPhone.  Where there’s a niche, however, someone will step in to (attempt to) fill it, and now Brando are selling a $20 kit for you to avoid sending your handset away and simply change the power pack yourself.

I say “simply” but of course it’s anything but.  The iPhone’s battery is soldered directly to the circuit board, so you’ll need more than a little skill to remove it; then you have to solder on the new 1400mAh, 3.7V power pack and hopefully not fry everything inside the handset in the process.

Are you brave enough to attempt such delicate surgery yourself?

  1. It’s a little early to worry about this right now, but give it 18 months from now — sales should sky rocket.
