What I don't understand is the lack of IM. I mean, I understand the reasoning everyone has been spouting off. Bust in on SMS sales. Blah blah blah.

Here's my response. Has anyone seen a Windows Mobile smartphone in action? Wherefore art you oh Messenger... Oh, there you are. Right where you should be. hmm.. Blows that theory out of the water now, doesn't it?

It won't eat out SMS sales. At least not for me. The only person I text with SMS is my wife. When I get the iPhone, I'll still text her with SMS even if I did have IM. The peopel I IM with iChat are a different set of people than I text with SMS, and they'll remain that way until everyone I know has an iPhone and then I'll dump SMS and replace it with iChat.

Mr. Jobs could announce an updated ipod and date it for a September or November release, setting it just in time for the Christmas season. I bet that there will be more iphone programs revealed.

WWDC seems a strange venue for a major iPod announcement.

Also, I think Apple has probably reasonably decided that they should do revs to the iPod in September/October so that they're selling "the new hot" for the Christmas season.

I'd say that it's more likely that we see a major iPod rev at the end of the current "Buy a Mac, get a free iPod" promotion (http://www.apple.com/backtoschool/). I think that's September 16. Which might bring new iPods the following Tuesday (September 18).

WWDC is interesting in terms of guessing this year. Macbook, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, and AppleTV have all recently been rev'd, so they're probably not changing. New iMacs are possible. Small form factor portable is possible (but I think the slide was fake as well). Something about the mini is possible, but it's equally probable that it could be killed or it could be rev'd.

So what's the "One More Thing"? I'd love a free iPhone, but I'd be way surprised if that happened. Maybe early sign up for one, but that's no better than 50/50. So perhaps Mr. Jobs has something up his sleeve that no one has thought of. But that seems unlikely since I believe Apple wants the world focused on the June 29 iPhone launch. Seems unlikely that Apple is going to take their eye off that ball this month!
