The iPhone’s official release date is June 29, 2007; and that’s set in stone. However, the time at which the iPhone will go on sale is sort of fuzzy at the moment. Steve Jobs clearly stated 6PM at WWDC 2007 Keynote, while another article in Yahoo!Finance also referenced the 6PM and lastly MacRumors also stated AT&T sent out a memo confirming the iPhone will go on sale at AT&T retail store at 6PM local time in each market.

This isn’t the case when our staff called around the Dallas, TX area to see when each AT&T owned retail stores would start selling the iPhone.
We found out the following:
- Desoto will start selling the iPhone at 6 o’clock sharp
- Dallas at Wisdom Camp will start selling the iPhone as soon as the store opens
- Denton will start selling the iPhone as soon as the store opens
- Wheatland will not have any iPhone until the July 4th
What’s the deal folks? If you’ve called your local Apple and AT&T retail stores and find out similar or different responses, please feel free to share with the community.

I called a Seattle at&t store. They’ll close at 4:30 and re-open at 6:00 PST. They also said they’d stay open an extra hour until 10pm.
my store told me 6pm, im sure thos other stores will be told to do so

oddly enough, the sales manager told us they were directed to sell the iPhone as soon as the store opens…and furthermore, they will get the iPhone shipment the day prior. no clue if there is any truth to this…
I’m not believing anything until I actually see it. I think it would be interesting if peopel could report back here after the fact and let us know when their store started selling. And, if I did hear something from someone I know who works at a local AT&T store, I wouldn’t post it anywhere for fear of getting him or her into trouble. I have heard about data plans from AT&T folks, but I’m not saying. First, I wouldn’t even trust the info until the day of; and of course, I woudln’t want to get anyone into trouble by spilling the beans or being wrong.
> “Steve Jobs clearly stated 6PM at WSJ: All Things Digital”
Nope. He most definitely did not. In fact, at All Things Digital, he didn’t even reveal a date, much less a time.
For what it’s worth, most people at WWDC at the keynote thought the 6 PM was a joke. Kind of like Leopard Ultimate for only $129. But perhaps it isn’t.
But it’d be kind of mean to make people queue up the day before and stand in line until 6 PM…better to have some sales at midnight. Although I do like the people who are theorizing that 6 PM allows the evening news some fresh footage. ;-)
I’m firmly in the “I don’t know what time” camp.
reinharden
reinharden, you’re right about one thing - Jobs announced the 6PM at WWDC and not D5 - thanks!

That’s hardcore man - then again, this is the iPhone we’re talking about. These high demand products tend to grow legs and walk away if not guarded.
yeah the managers also told us that att said that if one iphone goes missing they will drop the 100 million dollar account.
