Loading ...Apple held their annual shareholder meeting yesterday which for the most part was rather dull. Although it did get a bit heated when Steve Jobs fielded some questions regarding the stock-options scandal. He shrugged off most of it and got a few laughs, but somewhere in the midst of that meeting, he slipped in a little gem about the iPhone.
One of the biggest complaints I hear about the iPhone (falling just below price and lack of 3G I believe) is the fact that they aren't going to allow 3rd-party applications to be developed for the iPhone. Well apparently the jury is still out on that one. According to Jobs the company is still wrestling with that decision.
This is good news for 3rd-party developers that are chomping at the bit to get their software onto the iPhone. Lets just hope that Apple does open things up a little bit, even if they have to have a screening process for what they will and won't allow. It would be better than nothing.

It makes business sense for Apple to open up the iPhone with restrictions.
At the very least it’d be nice if they allowed anyone to write widgets for it. I’d love to make one that monitors the traffic cams for my work commute.
I don’t think there will be a problem with widgets. In fact Apple may push for widgets - for wider adaption.
