I commend Verizon for their decision but was it foolish of them to say no to Apple?  According to US Today Verizon rejected Apple’s offer as the exclusive carrier for the iPhone due to Apple’s terms.  Had Verizon agreed, they’d be giving up “a percentage of the monthly cellphones fees, say over how and where iPhones could be sold and control of the relationship with iPhone customers.”  Furthermore, Apple’s terms include restricting distribution to Verizon stores and Apple Stores only.  The report goes on to say that Apple would have “sole discretion over whether to replace our repair the iPhone” with regards to customer service.

I’m relieved yet sad at the same time.  I want a GSM over a CDMA because once it’s unlocked; I’d be able to use it worldwide.  On the other hand, since the first iPhone is only EDGE, I will miss the broadband like speed on Verizon’s EVDO network.

That’s ok. It’s only one phase of the negotiation. I’d personally prefer Verizon over any other carriers to start.
