The Apple MacPad

Worth Reading?

NoYes

I’ll eat my shoe if Apple delivers anything remotely similar to the MacPad.

"Part iPod, part Mac, part Tablet (Newton for you old timers) now part of your digital life…" Amen to that. "Sketch your ideas. Lets you do things you do on a Mac. 7" glossy Widscreen touchscreen. Full onscreen virtual keyboard and scroll wheel. Wireless Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. 80GB and 120GB versions."

The technology exists for Apple to produce this product. However, are consumers ready for it? Would you still buy it even though it’s missing a QWERTY keyboard? What if it’s three times the size of the existing video iPod? Would that be too big to carry around?

The answer is yes, I don’t care and no.

There is nothing on God’s Green Earth that will ever make me go back to the horrible, painfully hand cramped (doesn’t anyone remember writers cramp?), scribbling days of my youth before I learned to type. Period.

Guess that puts me in the “no” category. ;)

P.S. I don’t think the keyboard, hinge, and trac-pad are what raises the price another $600 for a MacBook.

  3. joel says:

I agree with you Scott, no keyboard is a big no-no for me too.

Your poll about “Santa Clause” [sic] is just sick. Spell correctly, and don’t think your spell checker is to blame for your faulty brain!

  5. Piet Van Allen – why don’t you try posting the comment in the right place. There are plenty of other Apple related sites on the Internet – you’re not welcome here.

What we need is something as small as possible (5 to 7 inch screen or so) and as light as possible (400 g or so) but with a full Mac OS X inside, so that full NATIVE Keynote and PowerPoint files can be open for full blown presentations with transitions, animations and video, as done now with laptops. Both wired and wireless.

Because even the MacBook Air is too large and heavy for us. With true Ethernet port. With true Firewire ports (Target Disk Mode for repairs, camcorder video in, etc). Something like this, but with Mac OS X inside:
