If you've been thinking about trying instant email on your iPhone, then Synchronica's 60-day free trial might be the push (ha, that was a pun, y'see) you need. We've mentioned Synchronica before: they operate a Mobile Gateway service that, using the Outlook Web Access system, securely picks up new email and automatically sends it on to your iPhone. The clever part is that there's no software to install and no security holes of the sort you might find should you open your Exchange server up to IMAP.

It's not just email, either. Calendar, address book, notes and tasks are all synchronised automatically, while the service is clever enough to support folders and not require any sort of Outlook redirection. If you've not got an Exchange account but still want some good email pushing fun, it'll also work with POP and IMAP systems, as well as Lotus Notes and Sun JES.
After 60-days, Synchronica are obviously hoping that you'll enjoy the service so much that you'll sign up to one of their upcoming paid accounts.

This is so cool! I’m totally gonna use it now! I’m sure glide is very happy with the traffic you send their way too ;)
Well, I’ve been looking forward to this, but so far I’m not impressed.
Why? Well, it just doesn’t work. I was able to quickly and easily check mail once, but never able to send. I hear they’re having a server overload, so I’ll reserve final judgment for the moment. But it’s not an auspicious start.
Oh, and it doesn’t matter to me, but apparently they can only sync email, and not calendar and contact, to the iPhone.
Assuming it all works, eventually, does anyone know how much it will cost?
I’ve been using the web interface on cingular’s xpressmail service
xpressmailpe.cingular.com
without issue since I got my phone.
It’s free, but you do have to go through Safari instead of the e-mail client.
Just a reminder for those not farmiliar with cingular.
Thanks,
-James
BTW – when you have a minute, please check out my game listing:
http://iphonegamedirectory.com
I’ve been working on it for the last month to make it load in only a couple of seconds when using EDGE and I’d really like my efforts not to be in vain. Please add your apps and games to it as you develop it.
Any suggestions would also be welcome – email them to snarfer@gmail.com
It is NOT push. It is just an IMAP connection to their Exchange Gateway. I installed it, then talked to thier helpdesk. They said just that, but also said that the iPhone would check their Gateway every 2 minutes. When I asked how that was set to two minutes on the iPhone they didn’t have an answer. The push is all HYPE…
