If you're looking for VoIP on the iPhone right now there's no especially elegant way of doing it. However, if you're willing to put up with a bit of hassle, you can use Skype. It doesn't involve installing a Skype client on the iPhone itself; instead, you use the SoonR Talk online IM client to link up with Skype running on your home PC. It's all the convoluted and marvellous brain-logic of TMCnet writer Tom Keating.

Basically, SoonR is an AJAX-enabled application that adapts itself to the screen-size, browser and technical capabilities of the handset or smartphone you use it with. In the case of the iPhone, that means you can use SoonR to remotely trigger a call to both yourself and the buddy you want to speak to (it calls both and then joins them in a conference call); throw in unlimited US/Canada SkypeOut minutes for a measly $30/year and you can talk for as long as you want. AT&T can't get miffed at you for over-using their data network, since the actual call is done over the voice network, it just so happens that it's initiated by your computer.
If anyone tries this out, do let us know in the comments.

While this is a good concept by SOONR.com the actual way the web software dials makes it pointless. The reason is because to initiate a “SkypeOUT” phone call, it has to dial your iPhone first (wasting cellular minutes) and than it connects with the party you are trying to dialing to create a conference call.
So you are not saving any minutes at all. The the point of VOIP, when you are at home doing your “peak minutes” hours, you want to use VOIP and when you are “off peak” 7PM or 9PM, you don’t care and just use your Cell Phone. With SOONR, you just don’t save any minutes at all. Good try. Maybe it’s good for people who want to dial internationally from their cell phone but pointless for people who want to make USA to USA loca/long distance calling.
whats the web page for the skype??
