Bizarrely missing from the iPhone's collection of talents is video recording, something most cellphone users take for granted.  Of course, a manufacturer's omission is the developer's opportunity, and Polar Bear Farm is one such software house that has decided to take on the challenge of adding moving pictures to the cellphone.  Their ShowTime app captures footage at six frames per second, 320 x 627 resolution, storing them in the iPhone's internal memory.

There are catches, however.  Right now, video is recorded in a raw format that both can't be played on your Mac or PC, and that quickly fills your iPhone's memory.  However, they're working on faster capture (with 15 frames per second the next target) and encoding into a standardised format, likely Motion JPEG.

There's a trial version which can save up to five seconds' worth of footage, and the full version is $10.

Note that this application ‘Showtime’ is actually using code that was stolen from the real developer (’Drunknbass’).

The real product (which is a lot better than this Showtime app is supposed to be released in the next few days.

i have just viewed your video and have a question. how come you say it will only record 5 seconds yet your demo plays for 20 seconds. its plain to see this is not 4 spliced videos so how do you do that. do you use a video recorder then upload that onto your iphone..
