China Unicom has said that it expects the iPhone to capture over 10% of the 3G market in China. If you figure in the glut of grey market iPhones already on the market there I wonder if the iPhone already has 10%.

The South Korean iPhone distributor KT has announced that it expects to sell 500,000 iPhones in its market. The iPhone is set to hit South Korea on November 28.

Star Wars fans can use the force with a new iPhone game called Star Wars: Trench Run. The game is sort of a special edition of the arcade classic that I spent big bucks playing as a kid.

It comes as no surprise that the Apple App Store is dominating the application market for mobile phones. The App Store has the most apps according to Millennial Media at 115,000 compared to 13,000 for Android and 3,100 for Blackberry. The iPhone also leads in monthly downloads at 100 million.

Magellan launched its RoadMate iPhone app and car kit this week. The app is for turn-by-turn driving directions and the accessory is to hold the phone while you drive. The app costs $79.99 and is available now.

China Unicom has seen lackluster sales of the official iPhone in its home market. However, the firm maintains that the iPhone will outsell rivals in the market. That is hard to believe with all the cheaper grey market iPhones on the Chinese market.

The Google Earth iPhone application has been updated with new features. The new version adds support for more languages and lets you customize the maps interface. The version also has enhanced performance and an enhanced icon selection.

One of the givens when it comes to putting Apps on the App Store is that lots of screen shots are included. I never really thought about how the devs makes those shots. A new screen capture app called SimCap has been announced that makes taking those screen shots easier for developers. The app is priced at $15.

AT&T is trying to set the record straight with Verizon, proving that those commercials with the maps are getting to AT&T. AT&T has already sued over the ads and AT&T points out that it has more data customers than Verizon thanks to the iPhone even though Verizon has more customers.

Apple has been catching a lot of flack for its arduous process of approving applications for the iPhone. Apple has announced a new app status tracker for developers so they can see where in the process their app is.

In the UK O2 and Orange are now both offering the iPhone leading many to wonder if sales would be harmed on either network. O2 is reporting that its sales have remained steady since Orange started offering the iPhone. This suggests that eliminating exclusive deals may not hurt the original provider.

TomTom's iPhone navigation app has drawn criticism from some users for being expensive and lacking features like text-to-speech that others offer. TomTom is set to release a new update that adds the text-to-speech functionality. The update also adds the ability to control iPod music from within the app.

The AT&T exclusive is set to end next year according to sources paving the way for this to happen. AT&T had better get their network woes fixed quickly or they will lose many customers if Verizon gets the iPhone.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that the purchase of AdMob by Google will expand the sales of ads that appear in apps for the iPhone. As an iPhone user with lots of free apps, I am not sure that is such a good thing. Ad supported apps better be good is all I am saying.

A new iPhone exploit has been spotted in the wild that is stealing user data. The new worm is using the same vulnerability that the ikee worm did on jailbroken iPhones and this time rather than changing a background image, the worm is stealing data.

With two worms targeting the iPhone in only a few days security of the handset is a big topic. The vulnerability from one of the worms is only a threat to those who jailbreak their devices. The second worm is being called a proof of concept and future worms could be malicious.

Strategy Analytics has announced that Apple was the most profitable handset maker for Q3 2009 with operating profits of $1.6 billion. The second place maker was Nokia with $1.1 billion in operating profits. It's very impressive that Apple does this with only one device tied to one carrier in America.

HD radio is one of those things that promises improved sound quality from the radio stations you already listen to, assuming they broadcast an HD signal. A new app and accessory combo work together to bring HD radio to the iPhone called the Gigaware Navigation Controller. The accessory sells for $80 and the app is free.

If you are a big fan of European football, known as soccer in America, Sky has launched its app to allow broadcasts on the iPhone. The app requires a £6 monthly fee and allows access to Sky News and Sky sports as well as ESPN. The app is free to download and requires WiFi to use.

One of the latest rumors regarding the iPhone is that Apple is set to reveal a world-mode iPhone that will run on CDMA and GSM/UMTS networks next year. If true, it could mark the end of exclusivity for AT&T and the answer of a dream for many iPhone users.

A new worm is attacking iPhones that are jailbroken and use default passwords. The worm apparently originated from the Optus mobile network and apparently other than being annoying causes no harm to the device.

Last month a SIM card tray turned up claiming to be for the next version of the iPhone. Today a midboard for the fourth gen iPhone has tipped up. It's hard to say if these are legit products or nothing more than a way to get attention. The company promises pics of the back cover for the fourth gen iPhone soon.

China Unicom has reported that a paltry 5,000 new subscribers is all that has purchased the iPhone in China since it launched last week. That is really no surprise considering that the official iPhone costs more than grey market devices available in the country with more features.

Intel has released an official comment on the issue that some users are reporting with certain Intel-based systems not synchronizing the iPhone with the latest iTunes version. Intel says that it believes the problem to be with BIOS or system configuration, but it is still investigating.

According to PC World, the iPhone as an eBook reader poses a threat to the Kindle. The iPhone is reportedly becoming the eBook reader of choice for many users. One out of every five new apps in the App Store in the last four months were reportedly eBooks.

Orange has revealed the pricing for the iPhone 3GS on its network. The device can be had for free with plans starting at £45 per month, which is about $74. I wonder if we will ever see free iPhones with contracts here in America.

MacNewsWorld has posted up a piece on what exactly the iPhone needs to keep Android at bay. The short answer is nothing more than a new carrier. The device needs to get away from the exclusive AT&T deal but with AT&T counting on the device for lots of new customers that will be a hard fought thing. Apple is undoubtedly losing customers due to the exclusive deal with AT&T.

When Rhapsody unveiled its new iPhone app the music service expected a glut of new customers to come its way. It appears that has failed to happen and while the app wasn't available for the full quarter, Rhapsody reports that its subscriber numbers have declined since the app was introduced. It seems customers are going to other services.

Google announced a sweet new app for Android 2.0 devices yesterday. The app will turn the phone into a full on turn-by-turn GPS navigation solution. Google reports that it is working with Apple to bring the Google Maps Navigation app to the iPhone. I bet AT&T tries to block it though.

According to some analysts, the iPhone will come to Verizon next year. Verizon has expressed interest in the iPhone despite commercials attacking the device. Most of us will be very glad to see the iPhone go to other carriers.

Three of the most popular smartphones around, including the iPhone, have been found to be vulnerable to a spear-fishing experiment. The attack starts with a phony LinkedIn invitation for Bill Gates in the in box. Luckily, the attack was a test conducted by Packetfocus and the company is working with various vendors to plug the hole.

Disney is getting ready to launch a new app for the iPhone that will act as a sort of central program for Walt Disney mobile offerings and allow the unlocking of exclusive content for users. The app is not yet names and will be offered at no charge starting soon.

Apple has grabbed up 30% of the smartphone market with the fantastic iPhone, nearly twice the market share the device enjoyed this time last year. The info comes from a survey by ChangeWave research. The survey shows that the Blackberry is still the leader in the smartphone market for share at about 40%.
