Rumor – 3 million iPhones to be available at launch

We’ve heard that the iPhone stock at launch will be limited, however, sources are now saying that there could be as many as 3 million available.

iPhone

Once source compares this to the launch of the iPod. When it came out, it wasn’t huge, so they created a “sense of scarcity by running slightly short of demand.” There’s so much hype surrounding the iPhone, they could care less about creating more. I’m sure they care more about making actual sales than building hype this time around.

So lets say for a moment that this rumor is true, there’s going to be 3 million iPhones available at launch. If all of these are evenly distributed across each of the 2,000 stores said to carry the coveted phone, we should see something like 1,500 per store. That sounds wonderful, but color me skeptical.

Seems to be a fairly high estimate to me. I don’t see what they have to gain by purposefully limiting supplies to generate more buzz, especially since the buzz level is already on the level of deafening. They’d be wiser to make sure the iPhone gets in the hands of as many people as possible on the 29th.

I doubt they will ship 1500 to each store on the first day. It is possible that there will be that many that are done with production but i think they will most likely start with about 100 per each att store and maybe a bit more for apple stores and then if supply demands it, then they will ship more soon after.

Perhaps 1500 over a period of a few months. Have you seen the size of the AT&T retail stores? They’re super tiny. Plus, I highly doubt they will store that many iPhones in the storage room — too high of risk for them to “simply get up and walk away.”

  4. Ok this is how i see it. I think that there will be many iPhones at launch not anything like the PS3 or anything but I think that if a store simply runs out of the product then it will place a call to a storage place where the iPhones are and more will be on their way, so that maybe only a handful will go with out them. I think the quantity is high for the iPhone but 3,000,000 is way out of the question in my opinion for the first day.
