A good many of our neighbors to the north have been eagerly awaiting information regarding the iPhone 3G data/voice plans from Rogers/Fido. Well that day has come, and while they have come up with plans that feature more data for the iPhone, they apparently don’t believe in unlimited data. Hit the jump for a breakdown of their rates.

- $60 – 150 daytime minutes, 75 sent text messages, 400MB of data
- $75 – 300 daytime minutes, 100 sent text messages, 750MB of data
- $100 – 600 daytime minutes, 200 sent text messages, 1GB of data
- $115 – 800 daytime minutes, 300 sent test messages, 2GB of data
I feel really bad for the Canadian customers that want an iPhone. First, there is no unlimited data plan, which while some people may never go over that 2GB cap on the $115 plan, I still would much rather not have to worry about it. As for the customers that don’t really use that many daytime minutes, they’re still forced into purchasing more minutes just to get more data.
There are a few things that Rogers is throwing in, like free incoming text messages, and free access to Rogers and Fido Wi-Fi hotspots. While those are a couple of niceties, they don’t make up for what the plans are lacking.

FYI: There is no such thing as “FIDO/ROGERS Hotspots”. They are just vaporware. A little trick created by the to look a little better. Again, no such thing as of Today. I bet they will have. One at each city, with limited access. No wonder everybody hates Rogers.
Rogers screws Canadians… AGAIN!
There will be no iPhone for me. In fact, I plan to cancel my internet and cell phone services with Rogers ON July 11th. I will buy an iPod touch instead and use a separate cell phone with another carrier.
“Robbers” will not be getting ANY MORE OF MY MONEY come July 11th and I hope the iPhone launch in Canada is a COMPLETE FAILURE while being a huge success everywhere else! If NO ONE BUYS FROM ROGERS, the price will quickly drop.
BOYCOTT ROGERS!!!
You know companies like Rogers would not be in a position to screw their customers so hard if the customers wouldn’t let them.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. If you do not give them your money, they will work harder to earn it. Of course Canadians have already approved giving Rogers a complete monopoly over the GSM bands so you can’t really be too surprised by their actions.
We Americans are no better. We broke up the AT&T monopoly years ago and then slowly and surely let them build it right back up to where it was 20 years ago. Can none of us learn from our mistakes?
Wait, what do they mean free wi-fi at ROGERS/FIDO hotspots? What about your own local Wi-fi networks? Seeing as how there’s no such thing as Rogers/Fido Hotspots that i know of, if there’s no free wi-fi on your own networks, then i’ll stick to my unlocked 2G iPhone

Rogers has done it again! No UNLIMITED Data plan for iPhone
Well Rogers has done it again, showing it’s yellow monopolistic teeth! 2GB of Data per month with the $115 Package? This is highway robbery! Are these corporate bloodsuckers for real?
All this is stemming from he fact that there are no competition for Rogers in Canada! No other GSM Service Provider! I was planning to at least buy 3 iPhone 3Gs, but I changed my mind! No iPhone till Rogers stops this draconian pricing for their data plan! What is hard to understand is this: Why Rogers has such a problem with DATA? Why? At least can they stop issuing decrees and actually explain to their clients why they are so stingy with their data bandwidth? May be also explain to us why the majority of Service Providers selling iPhone can sell their phones with an unlimited data plan?
Only 2GB a Month? This is a disgrace and it shows what Rogers really thinks about their Canadian Customers! They truly think that we are stupid & ignorant and that we neither know – nor are we capable of learning anything! Well I have news for you, Rogers: WE ARE NOT! I am canceling my plans for purchasing 3 iPhone 3G, until they offer UNLIMITED Data Plan! I am sure that most people, after finding out what Rogers is really doing, will cancel their plans as well. So I guess it was all for nothing to wait a full year for the arrival of iPhone to Canada! :(
Knowing about Rogers underhanded decision not to offer UNLIMITED data plan, Apple should have NEVER given iPhone sells rights to Rogers in the first place! Unlimited Data has been the cornerstone of Apple’s agreement for allowing a Service Provider to sell iPhone. Rogers held out for a full year, knowing that they have the monopoly on GSM market, and Apple gave up, which is very uncharacteristic of Apple. I guess Apple doesn’t care about their it’s Canadian Clients either!
IT SEEM LIKE THAT THE CLOSER THE RELEASE DATE GETS THE WORSER THE NEWS IS ALSO THIS DONT GO FOR AMERICANS OR DO IT IF BECAUSE THEM PRICES IS HIGH I WONT BE GETTING THE IPHONE IF THE PRICES LOOK LIKE THAT IN AMERICA BECAUSE I TEXT TO MUCH
screw rogers.
they already have made me pay crazy amounts of money in the past.
I was thinking about going back to them for the iphone. but with the cheapest plan at $60 +… I dont thin so.
no one buy this phone from rogers and everyone leave those bastards!
it really is sickening to see what rogers does.
Has anyone ever looked at the weathiest people in Canada?
Rogers ( the owner ) is in the top 5, if not higher than 5)
The funny thing is that he almost double/ trippled his money in the last 5 years ( by billions of dollars)
I wonder why?
Everybody who see’s this. Please do not purchase the new iphone 3g from rogers
BY THE WAY, Rogers owns Fido too *incase you didnt know that* so dont think you can fool rogers by purchasing from fido either, it is an inside joke that rogers laughs at us from doing.
Every Rogers customer that is pissed off at this should cancel their service on July 11th. Even if you HAVE to use Rogers, you could cancel for a month or two and then take advantage of some so-called deals to new customers.
Rogers And fido are funny with their plans and contracts they are trying to trap people so that the new carriers coming next year……..you get left out
good post, I found it quite informative, and it answered most with the concerns I had.
