some of you need to use os x's dictionary to distinguish between rumor and fact. the above wasn't supplied through an offical apple press release nor an official spokesperson. get a grip.

the mobile me didn't get slap down. apple owns the mark which was approved in hong kong - thru 2015. don't have link but will post later.

the hong kong filing date was 2005 which superceded the US filing date.

as far as don't mess with a good thing, there was nothing wrong with the powerbook - why change or fix it? look at the macbook and macbook pro sporting intel...one helluva machine.

Fun but not believable. I doubt that the content of the keynote is settled till the day before the keynote. There have been stories that Steve has even dropped things the day of the keynote.

Let me tell you: you don't MESS with what's not broken. Apple's learned this lesson the hard way. Steve's not stupid.

What makes me suspect this is a fake is the iPod announcement. Apple almost always makes iPod announcements at separate media events. Ever since the first Windows-compatible iPod, and especially since they separated the product line out to its own division, Apple has consistently shied away from tying the iPod line directly to the Mac line. Part of this is not announcing new iPods at MacWorld. Which means iPhone would be out of place at MacWorld as well. Oh yeah, and 10.5 by March? I doubt it...

Apple did away with the "Power" part of PowerBook at the last Macworld Expo. Perhaps Steve will do the same with "i" Pod and go with something completely new like "Mobile Me" - which they own the trademark.

I find several things very difficult to believe about this description.

First, I don't think there has ever been a keynote without new Macs being announced. The consumer Macs seem pretty up to date at the moment but I think the Mac Pro is about ready for a quad-core dual processor announcement. Apple's competitors already have such a machine, and I don't think Apple would want to be left behind on that front.

First and a half. To announce new displays - which only the professional types are interested in - would be almost unprecedented without new Macs to go with them.

Second. I don't think Apple can cost-effectively make a 17" Cinema Display, nor do I think they would want to. They would have to sell it for about $300-400 in today's market and I don't think there's any profit in that for them. A 17" iMac, which has a stronger processor, would be cheaper than a less powerful Mac Mini + a 17" Apple display. I don't see Apple as going that route.

Third, while a black cherry theme might be attractive there is something about it that doesn't feel Mac-like. There might be more colors added but I think Aqua as the default theme is here to stay.

Finally, they would not use the code name of ITV. They would use the launch name, whatever it is. This alone makes me feel that we're not looking at a real list of talking points, because an authentic list would have the code names removed and the description of Leopard more fleshed out. I think this was made by someone who knows no more about what will actually happen than I do.

Hope that was interesting.

At Macworld Steve usually announces iLife upgrade. There is no mention of iLife in the list, so I do not think it is real :)

Well it looks like I'll be getting a Sony Walkman Phone then. My current contract is up but I'll wait until right after the Keynote. Too bad, I'll also be selling my iPod Nano as I won't be needing it anymore. The Sony Walkman phone even has a FM radio. This is a Bummer Apple!
