MMS for the iPhone 3G on AT&T works now!

AT&T promised that it’ll offer MMS on the iPhone after getting some system upgrades done, but according to Engadget, “seems that it works right now — if you’ve got a build of OS 3.0 that’ll let it.” The site’s tipster sent screenshoots that indicate both MMS and tethering are in full effect on the network.

    KaBam… you’re an idiot!

  2. Goran says:

It only works if your phone is unlocked.

  3. Jack says:

Wrong Goran… my iphone 3gs is still locked and my tethering works just fine.

  4. crazyburns says:

    @Jack

I think what Goran was saying is the MMS only works when unlocked. I can’t receive MMS on my 3G with 3.0. I believe the reason it works is that, like Goran said, this tester is not using a phone they received from AT&T. I think it has to do more with your account than the phone. It’s a setting on AT&T’s side that says weather or not your device is enabled for receiving MMS messages. I’m personal about to call AT&T and complain. Other networks with the iPhone didn’t have to wait. What are we paying them for?

  5. TaurusTechy says:

Well if you all would accept that AT&T cannot change settings on your accounts just b/c u want them to… And other netwroks DO NOT HAVE AN IPHONE.

  6. MrFashionForward says:

Bottom Line Is If They Were Going To Advertise The MMS Feature For The New 3.0 Update They Should Have Already Fix Whatever It Is They Needed To Fix When The Update Came Out…It Just Shows That AT&T Is A** Backwards! Love My Iphone 3gs Tho…

  7. Jonnyboy78 says:

I say if they dont offer this these options soon we do a world wide ban on ATT and they will lose billions. $30 extra on a phone adds up. I hope it goes to verizon.

  8. got2bgr8 says:

mms working great on my 3gs had to download a carrier setting from a web site directly from my phone. worked right away and has for days

  9. robertguero says:

“download a carrier setting from a web site directly from my phone”

    What website?

  10. Djstickem says:

Hey guess what Tarus tech ? I have the iPhone on a differnt network and my mms works!!!

  11. A person says:

Doesn’t it cost extra per month for the MMS?

  12. Alex says:

Okay, I’m confused. I just got the iPhone 3GS a week ago. It has AT&T 4.0 Carrier, and I just updated it to 3.0.1 Firmware. I know that it’s possible to jailbreak, but I don’t really want to void my warranty.
How do I get MMS and tethering?! I read that you have to upgrade to AT&T 5.0 and I don’t know how!!
And I have a Dell so I can’t get that via the computer’s firmware.
    HELP ME!!!!

  13. Buddy says:

You can get tethering to work without jailbreaking. Look at this site: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/06/18/enable-internet-tethering-on-iphone-30-for-free

And if you are jailbroken and run PDAnet then you will need to turn off the Router Mode in the PDAnet settings.

    cheers.

  14. Lalala says:

I read that you have to update to AT&T 5.0 but how do you do that?

  15. Jessica says:

How do set the settings for mms on my iPhone 3gs

  16. photonshooter says:

MMS does work on a locked AT&T iPhone. I’ve had my MMS working since May on my locked, non jailbroken 3gs. Update your ipcc carrier file to the 5.0. For those of you who say mms does not work you are wrong. Search the Internet, many websites have tutorials, or just be patient and wait three more weeks.

  17. aj318 says:

photonshooter, what happens in three more weeks?

  18. alexkm39 says:

I have had a Iphone 3g 16gb for about 3 weeks and I have jailbroke it and unlocked it and am useing t-mobile service and I have web to go installed on it and i just set it up with:
    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS Max Message Size:
    MMS UA Prof URL:
And the MMS works fine between t-mobile to t-mobile… but I tried to send pics to a AT&T phone but won’t work ….. not sure why, the AT&T phone is not a Iphone ,and the phone send and recives pictures with no problems with other phones.. …….My Experience !!

  19. Joe says:

You are all very funny and entertaining. MMS does not work (yet) for a locked iPhone and there is no easy way around this terrible problem with regards to AT&T. Just be patient, they will fix this in the very near future.

  20. Brandon H says:

I have mms working on att just fine, You have to download the carrier AT&T_.IPCC file. It updates the carrier settings to 5.0. I can only show you how to do it if you have a mac, and an iPhone 3GS

  21. Brandon H says:

and my iphone is locked. I did the update through iTunes.

  22. Fred says:

Photonshooter, I have the 5.0 carrier file and can see the camera icon in messages on my iPhone 3GS. However, I still cannot send MMS messages. I was able to do so with Swirly MMS on my 3G but not on the 3GS. tethering works fine. I have a standard AT&T messaging plan, not an iPhone messaging plan.

What did you do to get MMS working on you iPhone 3GS?

  23. Adam says:

    @ Brandon H.

I have a macbook, and a 3gs and have updated my carrier to 5.0 with no luck on the sending mms. Can’t receive them either. I have the camera icon in the message app and have the option to send pics as mms along with the stuff in the settings for turning mms on and off but whenever I go to send a picture it loads to about 95% and just hangs there for a while until I get the little red dot with the “!” in it.

    How did you do it?

  24. Res Ipsa Loquitor says:

MMS works NOW on ATT’s iPhone.

    1) update your carrier file to AT&T 5.0 (google this process)

    2) enter these MMS settings under SETTINGS>GENERAL>NETWORK>CELLULAR DATA NETWORK>MMS: apn- wap.cingular; mmsc- mmsc.cingular.com; mms proxy: 066.209.011.032; leave everything else blank. while you are there, change the visual voicemail apn to acds.voicemail (or your vvm won’t work.)

    3) do the sim swap with an mms capable phone that is on your shared account. (google this process). may work with a phone not on your account, but i haven’t tried that. call customer service a few times from that mms capable phone, hang up before a cs rep answers.

    4) while your iphone sim is in the other phone, follow these steps precisely: go to the att medianet homepage, enter your iphone phone number (may take several attempts before your # is acccepted), wait for the 4 digit code to be sms’ed to the non-iphone phone, enter that code in the media net site. all that is required is a login to the media net site…you do not need to do anything on that site, once logged in.

    5) before removing the sim card from the non-iphone phone, log in to your att wireless account (attwireless.com), change your messaging plan to the family messaging plan…if you already have that plan, remove it and then re-add it. very important that you do this.

    6) send several mms messages from the non-iphone phone, then remove your sim card from the non-iphone phone, reinsert it in your iphone, reset the phone, and that is that.

this process used to work, but only kept me mms capable for no longer than 15 minutes. i have been mms capable for the past 24 hours, which leads me to believe that the iphone/mms block has been removed from snooper, in anticipation of the official rollout of iphone mms on the 25th of september.

let me know how this works for you.

  25. sinister1 says:

This thing about AT&T bringing MMS to the i Phone is good news but only to G3S users. Sept. the 25th? Yeah right; I kind of doubt it. Oh, and even if it comes on that date, will it work? would there be an extra charge for the new data line? Will AT&T over charge there customers like it does with its text messaging? (There sure wouldn’t be any surprises there) What about the users who have the 1st or 2nd i Phone; are they going to make them go out and buy new phones? forget that; if you want to send MMS from your i phone for free to anyone, right now! Go to MMS.ifind2.com and down load the sender today and forget about waiting on Apple & AT&T.And you don’t even have to unlock or jailbreak your phone; Just check out the video on the link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AygkZYjjNY

  26. Tekkie says:

MMS is working fine on ATT, with v.5 carrier settings, as of tonight! Happy camper!

  27. sinister1 says:

Who wants to go thru all that; removing the Sims and following all those miss-arable steps? MMS from ifind2 is so easy to download and use. And is the only one that works as of now until AT&T can get there head on straight and finally release MMS but don’t hold your breath.

  28. Southsideguy83 says:

Mms is working for me in Chicago. My phone is not hacked or anything like that. I just called AT&T and it is pretty much being activated one number at a time.

  29. sinister1 says:

One number at a time? WTF? there are like 5 million i Phone users world wide! If they are activating it one number at a time then that is the most retarded thing I’ve heard in my whole life. Could you imaging how long it will take for all i Phone users to actually get MMS working on their phones? Forget waiting, get MMS ifind2 or if not just give up and get you a Windows based phone. Don’t hold your breath for AT&T.

  30. Chrisine says:

Are you guys also using the http://MMS.ifind2.com through AT&T? That’s what me and my whole family is using. I got tethering through them also. Paid $2.99 for it and I get free Internet through AT&T also. :)

  31. Southsideguy83 says:

Ok I’m gonna hold my breath… Yep it’s working that’s a relief. I should of worded the one phone at a time better. I should of said they are going by region. Everyone I know in my area with an iPhone has mms working as of last night.

  32. This is great AT&T customers can already send MMS, i have a jailbroken and unlock iPhone with T-Mobile i am able to send MMS but the quality is not the greatest

  33. M says:

How do you know when u have it? You just “reboot” and it’s there?

  34. jonsten says:

well i got an iphone 3gs
cost too damn much with all the added extras and i owned it since july and i just found how to download/install the tethering shit on my phone. my issue is AT&T are just plain jerks! why do we the customers have to go through all this just to enjoy another apple product? why do i have to google and download something that i fear may void my warranty just to enjoy a feature that i pay $30 or more for a month. its just not fair at all.. now i seem to still have AT&T carrier version 4.0 and i think thats cause i somehow havent seemed to get an update or its because i use a wall charger so i avoid the whole booting my pc thing just to charge my iphone at home but the sim swapping this is a pain. if u paid the advertised price plus hidden fees like i did then i suggest u wait before doing something that may void your warranty.

  35. me says:

I have the AT&T 5.0 carrier version and I still don’t have MMS so just updating to the AT&T 5.0 version doesn’t guarantee that you will have MMS.

  36. Chuck says:

Native MMS capability for the AT&T iPHone in North America will be released on September 25th, according to this AT&T Press Release. Since it’s so close at hand, I’ll just wait:

    http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=1574

Hope this helps those who are chomping at the bit for MMS Support, I know I am as well.

  37. Scott says:

I am near Orlando Florida. MMS works. Very nice too
    Finally.

  38. creeves says:

why won’t my 3g work running 3.1? Is there something I have to setup first on the phone?

  39. geez says:

if u want to get ur iphone jailbroken and u scared cuz u will lose itz warranty which is rite u can always rset ur phone to itz regular setting with att&t. i hope this work for yall who have there iphone jailbroken.i have a iphone 3g and mines is jailbroken somethin wasnt workin and i toke it to apple and got a new phone.

  40. Timberwolf9 says:

  42. Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything. Nevertheless think of if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this site could undeniably be one of the best in its niche. Superb blog!

  43. It’s exhausting to search out knowledgeable individuals on this matter, but you sound like you understand what you’re talking about! Thanks

  44. I was just searching for this info for some time. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your website. I wonder what’s the Google’s problem that doesn’t rank this kind of informative web sites closer to the top. Usually the top sites are full of garbage.
