If you want custom ringtones but aren't too keen on following the community instructions for opening up your iPhone, then you might consider Efiko Software's iPhoneRingToneMaker. It looks to make creating your own ringtones from an MP3 (or WAV or OGG file) mightily straightforward - you can choose which section of the song to keep, add fades at either end, and it'll also allow you to open up the iPhone's clock to use mp3 alarms.

will this damage my iphone or void my warranty?

  2. Patrick Murphy says:

I purchased iPhoneRingToneMaker and installed on my Windows Vista notebook. It has worked fine; I added 5 custom ringtones which appear to operate just like the Apple-provided ones. (One custom ringtone is now my overall ringing sound, a couple of others are specific for certain callers.)

I did have a small issue with how to sync; basically, put the iPhone in the cradle and let Windows notice it, before starting the iPhoneRingToneMaker program.

My iPhone continues to work normally, with no apparent ill effects or problems. I cannot say whether this voids Apple’s warranty since I haven’t read the warranty (grin!).

  3. Chris Davies says:

Thanks for the feedback Patrick, I’m glad to hear it worked for you.

As for potential warranty issues, Scott, I’m not entirely sure. It would come down to whether Apple might argue that any problem arising could be connected to the ringtone software – a poorly soldered button obviously wouldn’t, but they may say software instability was conected. The best thing to do is read the warranty closely and make the decision yourself.

  9. adrenachrome says:

I really want to add some custom ringtones to my iphone, but I might end up waiting for apple to release a program, or do whatever it is they are planning to do. as for the warranty, here is the part I believe pertains to the issue………..

This warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by use with non-Apple products; (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes; (c) to damage caused by operating the product outside the permitted or intended uses described by Apple; (d) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”); (e) to a product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple; (f ) to consumable parts, such as batteries, unless damage has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (g) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; or (h) if any Apple serial number has been removed or defaced.

I believe part (e) basically says that if this program jacks up your phone you are S.O.L.

Can anyone tell me what the sound quality is like? I know the speakers aren’t that great on the iphone, but does it sound decent?

Is there a possibility to remove the ringtones from your iphone? Can you delete them through the phone, the program or is that even an option?
