Right now you could scrawl "ultraportable" with a sharpie on an apple in your local grocery store, and before you got to the checkout there'd be analysts, journalists and the generally hopeful clustering around begging for a super-compact notebook from Cupertino's most famous manufacturer.  The rumor-mill frots its way into a greasy climax today with word that Kenmos Technology and Taiwan Nano Electro-Optical Technology (Nano-Op) have clinched deals to supply Apple with LED backlight units (BLUs), and what's causing most consternation is the size: apparently Apple have validated 13.3-inch BLUs, a size not currently in use and so, many are aching to believe, likely to feature in a new design.

MacBook range could get an ultraportable sibling

"The sources disclosed that Nano-Op's LED notebook BLU shipments in November were only about 10,000 units, but Apple orders are expected drive up shipments to over 90,000 units in December" DigiTimes

Kenmos' BLUs are apparently intended for "high-end models"; those supplied for Apple and, also announced, Dell, are estimated to hit 200,000 units for Q4 and 300,000 units in Q1 2008.

The Apple ultraportable rumor has proved almost as enduring as that of the iPhone; current thinking is that it will be outfitted with solid-state storage and be announced at the Keynote on January 15th.

Please, please, please…
If you’re going to write on a blog for all the world to see, learn how to use English properly. I cringe when you use a company name in a sentence linked with a plural verb. “Apple” is a company. It’s a single entity.
“Apple have …” is completely wrong. Please use “Apple has …”.
If you feel compeled to use the plural, try “Apple employees have …” or “Apple developers have …”. My little daughter writes better.

Oops. Try “compelled”. Mouse hit “post” before I was ready.
