June 29th joins the iPhone release date pool

June 11th has a slight lead over the June 15th release date, with June 20th in last place in our recent poll. According to Apple Insider, a contact with decent track records for reporting this kind of stuff stated Friday, June 29th is the date being passed around at some Apple retail stores this week. What do think? I’ve added the June 29th release date to the existing poll; vote for it if you think this info has any merit.

Update – Poll is closed. The official iPhone release date is June 29, 2007. Start saving up!

In case you are interested, I voted for the June 11th release date, for non other than selfish reason – I just want the iPhone to arrive!

Apple Insider makes a great point, “a June 29th launch, while largely considered a rumor at this time, would corresponds the company’s recent practice (1, 2) of holding some of its high-profile consumer product launches at the end of the week. It would also conform to Apple’s official “late June” launch window and recent comments by company chief executive Steve Jobs.”

The iPhone is priced at $499 for the 4GB model and $599 for the 8GB model – with a 2-year contract. AT&T is very clear that if you live in an area where they don’t currently service directly, you will not be able to purchase an iPhone. Also, Apple is very clear that carriers are NOT ALLOWED to subsidize the price of the phone in any way, shape or form. The $499 / $599 is the actual cost of the iPhone.
