You know how sometimes companies who sell electronics and give them a good warranty or guarantee they do little things so that if whatever you come in needing fixed was caused by accidental damage done by you, instead of a hardware failure they can make you pay? Like for this example, cell phones that you have dropped in a puddle will show it with a little sticker that changes colors, usually next to the battery cover.

Well the iPhone and iPod Touch have those too, its just a lot harder to find unless you know where it is. Look down your headphone jack on either of those devices, and at the bottom of that well, you’ll see the sticker.

I am sure there are ways to circumvent it, but at the same time, its kind of crappy of them to put it in a place where a single drop of rain could cause it to change, but not cause any damage to the rest of the phone. Maybe if they hadn’t sealed the rest of the phone away from easy access they could have put it somewhere more practical. Regardless, you now know you can’t play off that canoe trip you took with your iPhone as a hardware malfunction, so don’t try it.

so i dropped my ipod on the floor, and it stumbled into the dogs water dish. magic i know. there was about an inch or less of water and was in there for maybe 2 seconds, it worked for about an hour or 40 minutes and then the shut off option started to show up and go away, and then the volume would go up all the way until i got onto the home screen then it was alright. but the screen would repeatidly shut off. its now sitting in a ziplock bag of rice.
is anyone sure this will work.

Hi! please help i spilled water on my ipod touch not much but now the touch screen is not responding! I have no idea what to do it still seems to work and there is no water inside the scren ect! how do i fix it?
same problem siobhain i dropped it in the sink everything works except the touch screen doesnt respond!!! can anyone help
Well I would suggest shipping it off to apple and playing it off as hardware failure. when they send it back saying it has water damage call them again and tell them that it wasnt that way when it left. Make sure to tell them that the paper in the bottom of the headphone jack was definatly white when it left. Dont get mad, be calm and collected with a good argument on your side. Worked for me. Ipod died while cleaning screen. They reffered me to an apple ipod touch specialist who then sold me the apple care protection warrenty for $80 and put in the notes that i was to recieve a brand new touch. FYI dont put it under the tap!!!

I dropped the iphone in water, the screen turns on fine showing the battery is dead, but it wont charge.. does anyone know how to fix this??
OMG! Last Night I had a glass of water next to my bed and my pillow was shifted and knocked the tip of my ipod ouch inside a 1/2 inch deep. It was working fine until the screen went blank and my music stopped playing. Now I can’t see my screen and if i dosee my screen i only see it under bright light. It responds and it plays my music but i cannot see my screen. Someone please help!!!!
i dropped mine in the toilet. DW THERE WAS NOTHING IN THERE LOL. it was soaked and yeah, everything works fine but the screen. the image is fine, just the touch feature, you just have to press REALLY hard, that might work for some of your problems…
I heard you can use bleach and stick it in the headphone jack to change the color. Wish I knew this before I bought a new one…also, leaving the iPod in a bowl (or a bag, which ever gives u more hope) of rice for at least two days to soak up the water. Rubbing alcohol and 50% alcohol do not work. Patience is the key here. especially if u ever want to hear ur music on the same device again :)
I dropped my iphone in a lake, where it promptly landed on the bottom, some 4 feet under. I thought for a bit, will I get electrocuted if I stay nearby? The lake was fresh water, about 1 mile across. I decided to try to grab my phone, and sure enough, after feeling around on the bottom of the lake, I found it.
I put it in a bag of rice, but wasn’t thinking if I’d cooked the rice properly before hand or if the green-beans in the rice would help, or how. A few days later, I forgot my iphone was in the fridge in my left over rice bag, and when I dropped it in the frying pan, it started to sizzle in the butter. I took it out with the spatula and ran it under soap and water to remove the butter.
I thought it was ruined but when I pressed the button, a few pixels showed up in the lower right hand corner. I put it in the oven at 250 degrees for 40 minutes, and when I checked it, it looked like it was going to work, but then quit.
My kitty litter is really made of these little silicone pellets, so I scooped out some of those and put the hot iphone in that. The following day I pulled the cooler iphone out, and it didn’t work. I tried the charger and heard a pop from the phone when I plugged it in.. A couple of hours later, it was fully functional.
So cool. Apple stuff really rocks. You just can’t break an iphone even if you do alot of really fun things to it. I use a Net10 10cents a minute phone now, because I just needed a phone. Once I discovered that what I needed was a phone, I sold my iphone. but it was fun owning it for a couple years.
I went with my friends to the pool and the IPood was in my Pocket it Stayed in water more than 5 Hours I try to Drying it at home the wate is gon but when i on it il’s locked in the top

I also check the headphone jack where the water paper test is, it seems to be a tiny bit pink, not like OMG i see red//pink just if you look close enough does that matter for anything? please help!!

I put an icecube in my pocket because I did not have enough room in my glass of ice, but i forgot it so it melted in my pocket and got my ipod pretty wet. So now my brightness is all the way down and i cant change it, and it clicks random things without me touching it.
And i jailbroke it so my warranty is gone.
wonderful.

How to fix an ipod or iphone that was dropped in water
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xQLYur_4dw
my iphone fell in mop water while i was cleaning the kitchen. it just happened about 40 minutes ago, and all i did was take a hairdryer to it. the screen was on with no backlight for a few minutes, but then went completely dead. as of now its non-responsive to anything. i hope its not completely dead, i use it for everything and it has my entire life in it. PULL THROUGH IPHONE!
Seriously people… ice-cubes in pockets(you had to have made that up, no one is that, well, maybe you are?), dog dishes… this is a piece of complicated electronics… treat it with some amount of common sense. Get a case/holster/condom for the dang thing and BE CAREFULL!
Okay so i was at this place with my friends, we took a bus up there, and my ipod was in my pocket and it started to pooring rain. I tried to keep it dry but it didnt work. It stayed on till it died now it wont even turn on i tried charging it but it wont charge. There was nothing i could do to prevent it from getting wet. I put it in rice too for a couple days still no response. Can someone please give me advice.
i dropped it in water a week ago and quickly put it in a bowl of rice. i tried it a couple days ago and it turned on but the touch function wasnt working. i put it back in the rice and tried it again today and it totally works now: screen, apps, music. the screen looks kinda messed up still, like there’s water in it….
I really need help i have to hold to turn my ipod touch on and after it turns on it is a dim white a few seconds later a bright light and a few second later it will turn off i really need help =(

Guys, I’m really worried. About 2 hours ago I was going for a walk with my iTouch. A car drove past me, through a puddle and splashed water up onto me and my iTouch. It worked for maybe 5 minutes after but then shut off. It now won’t turn on, won’t respond to my AC wall chrarger or getting plugged into my computer. nothing. I’m also worried about sending it off to apple to get it repaired as I have mine Jailbroken and apparently that voids all warrenty. Anyways that I can fix it myself? I’m willing to try anything within reason. PLEASE HELP!

well mine is a QUESTION not a comment… i was in my bathroom doing my hair and my ipod touch fell in the toliet and i put it in the rice and it turned on and off over and over again. i only ket it in there for like 3 or 4 hours and it worked well but i could still see the water in it. then after a day my texting app stopped working. do you think the app stopping working has any thing to do with it falling in the water ?
Dropped itouch 1st gen in pool. everything works execpt for wifi. Can i have this replaced?
I had the same thing happen to mine and I also wanted to comment but you beat me to it. Oh well, just glad its fixed now.

plllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help me
Never, EVER,. heat an electronic device!!! It’s ruined on the inside the miniute it gets to hot. Let it dry (powered off if possible, but if yours won’t let you turn it off that’s fine too). Turn the thing up on its side, where the water can drain out of the headphone jack and the USB port. Leave it for at LEAST 3 days!!!
ok so about a week ago i guess. i drop my itouch in da toilet about 2 sec i guess, i wasnt at my house this happenat my uncle house. so there was no comp. i didnt kno wat to do. i wipe it off wit paper towel. and it work about 2 hours after tht. we was comin home from my uncle’s house n he live 3 hours away from us. while i was in da car my ipod went to max volume i almost yell. then for some weird reason all my song got deleted. i turn off my ipod sayin i can fix it when i get home. got home charge it. woke up da next day it was workin fine but da screen not respondin, today i decided to check it again. still da screen not respondin. yus i check da water thngy thts in da earphone jack. its lil pink. i told my mom today n i got in so much trouble well im grounded now. so i gotta fix my itouch or find a way to fix it. so at least it well b better.. i rly need help im missin my music n now i got to sit in my room doin nothin. so plz tell me
So i droped my ipod touch in the toilet and right when i got it out i pressed a few buttons and it started to go crazy. then i tried to charge it to see if that would help and so i touched it and it made a frying noise. then i turned it off a day later i out it in a bag of rice and im waiting till tomorrow to hope that it still works. but i need to know if it will.
Any help?
putting rice near it is just a waste of rice. It won’t help one tiny little bit.
Why doesn’t anybody use silica gel? It is made for removing moisture. Rice is not. The common sense aint too common anymore me thinks.
Where do you get silica gel??? Google is your friend. ;-))
But think of it this way……… you did not lose an iPod…… you gained a valuable life lesson!!!!!

I left my ipod in my shorts and it got washed in the washer. It works telling me to plug it into the charger and the Apple icon comes on for 5 mins then if flashes to a white screen for a second and then goes back to the Apple icon… What should i do!?!?!?!?!?!
I can’t believe you all have not googled this yet, but DO NOT turn on your iphone until it is completely dry! I had the same wacked out thing myself. Dropped it in water yesterday and here is what I’ve done so far:
IMPORTANT: be sure the you keep it off and powered down as turning it on or charging it could short out the system.
1) took out the SIM card, dried that off. kept SIM card out.
2) put iphone in front of a fan while I was at work (so basically all day) – I could see moisture on the inside of the camera lens and by the end of the day the moisture there was gone.
3) put it in a bowl of rice. uncooked rice is similar to silica and will absorb the moisture. I left it in a bowl of rice overnight.
4) put SIM card back in and the phone started up. the battery was completely dead, I think it may have been on at some point during all this as when I put the SIM card the phone vibrated and started up – eek! I dont think there was any damage at this point, but still too early to tell, I think.
5) next day (today) I thought about charging it, as it seemed to be completely dry. I plugged it in and seemed to be charging and everything came up, however the screen is still very dim. So in a panic, I turned it back off and put back in front of the fan. I figure some more drying time can’t hurt.
I have seen on other forums where the backlight has been a problem and people have done a complete restore of the phone (do that by connecting to your computer, loading up itunes and select restore there). So hopefully that works for me. If all else fails, I will have to fork out bucks for a new phone or try getting parts from someplace like eTech:
http://www.etechparts.com/eTech_Parts_Your_source_for_3GS_iPhone_Repair_Parts_s/272.htm
some months ago, i cleaned the screen of my touch with a bit water.
the itouch didnt respond for some days. suddenly it worked again. screen didnt respond sometimes and i always had to lock and unlock it if it didnt respond. that problen got fixed within 2 weeks but the volume buttons at the left side dont work. two mths later i dropped it and didnt notice anything not working. sime days later i realised the jack isnt working correctly. i have to fiddle a bit to get sound from the left speakers. can i give it to apple saying that water didnt cause the problem? the jack was a bit pink MONTHS before.
3 or 4 drop of watter felt on my ipod touch it atomaticlly goes to max volume and the lock button locks the itouch and raises the itouches volume and the +volume button locks and raises the volume and it keep on asking me if i whant to turn pliz some body help me i got this for my 13th b-day and i dont whant to get in trouble pliz if you know what to do send me a eamil to homeclasse@hotmail.com
Granddaughter took ipod touch with her when walking dog, in the rain.
Moisture got between glass and screen. After gently drying it out, over 48 hours in the airing cupboard, everything seems to work OK. thinking that there was a manufacturing fault I spoke to Apple Customer Support. I was told that warranty was now withdrawn and the ipod would probably cease to work satisfactorily in the near future. They would replace the Ipod for £82+.
Surely in this day and age you would expect a potable item of this value would be water resistant.
hey i was rinsing the screen and i dont now wat happened but water is under the screen and the touch screen wont work i just put in rice ill take it out in 5 days ill report back
but wen i called apple they sed the waranty was gone and i mean shuch an expensive device should have water resitance thats kind of stupid they just wanna take our money we should like su them or something its not a joke they should have put water resitance on it i mean cheeper toys have water resitance who ever reads reply and we could really make them give us our money back or a new ipod touch
my ipod touch dropped da skink, and little bit of water got on it, towel dried and switched it back on and carried on listening to music, then 10 mins later the volume altogether stopped working,HELP!!!! HELP!!!!:*<
