According to iSuppli the iPhone sold 1.8 percent of all the mobile handsets in July. That’s pretty amazing, I mean it is a great phone, but it is also a phone that costs at least twice what most of its competitors cost.

iSuppli is even going so far as to say such a rise to power in such a short time might be unprecedented in mobile phone history. They even went one step further and found that most of the iPhone owners are male, under 35, and have obtained a college degree.
Here’s the best part, of all the purchasers of the iPhone only a fourth of them switched to AT&T, which clearly means that someone has had this whole unlocking business figured out long before now since AT&T is the only carrier of iPhone service. I wonder where iSuppli pulled that magic trick with the numbers from, unless what it really means is only a fourth of the iPhones purchased have been activated at all.

Prior reports though indicated that 50% of iPhones activated were switched from other carriers or were new AT&T accounts.
