As slick and powerful as the new iPhone 3GS is, it still lacks a basic feature that users of other devices like the Blackberry take for granted -- MMS. You can’t shoot a pic with the iPhone and then just send it to a pal over MMS, you have to email it.

CNET reports that it thinks MMS for the iPhone may be landing soon. The publication reports that after grabbing the OS 3.0.1 update the MMS commands reappeared. The catch right now is that MMS messages can’t be sent, but since the commands are there we can assume you will be able to send soon.
The new commands are in carrier version 5.0 according to CNET. My carrier version is 4.0 and I have no MMS commands. So check your device, see if you are on 5.0 and let us know if you see MMS commands. Look in the Settings > General > About then carrier field to see.

We in India got MMS capability with OS 3.0(Airtel Network)
In Canada we also were able to use MMS with OS 3.0 (Fido and Rogers)
This is a feature that was disabled by AT&T in the US.
On O2 in the UK and have had MMS since V3. Still not used it. Everyone I know uses email.
WTF?!… iPhone has had native MMS since 3.0
Get with the program >:\
oh right, i see…
a re-blogged at&t-centric (USA-centric) article. then label it as such or don’t be so naive.
i’ll no longer be following this blog. :\
I have carrier setting 5.0 on my jailbroken 3g running 3.0.1. I have had MMS for a couple of weeks now. I got it to work in 3.0, with the carrier settings trick. Oh, and Im on at&crap. lol
To Nudel,
What country are u in? Not the US apparently. MMS is not on any normal iPhone unless u jailbrake it or do something to it yourself. In V3.0 they changed SMS to a plain messaging icon is all in the app layout in prep for the MMS coming but still nothing. Why do u think this article and a thousand others are out there, duh! They blame ATT and Apple for dropping the ball on this one, but I believe Apple simply left it off the phone because ATT didn’t want to deal with the fact that they couldn’t support it when the phone came out. ATT rots, their plans rot, they overcharge bigtime, dropped calls, UGH! I wish another co would get the rights to sell it so we could have some competition pricing at least!
No, I’m *not* in the US – and that’s my whole point.
The article does not indicate anywhere that it’s referring only to the lack of MMS in US for AT&T customers. The rest of the world (there is one, you know) has had access to MMS on non-j/b iPhones since 3.0. Suck my balls.
The issue is the attitude of the article which presumes that a post on an international platform is only reaching a local audience (or to put it another way – that nothing other than the US exists).
Hey Nudel,
Where was the iPhone originally developed/released?…we all forgot!
In Estonia (EMT network) we have MMS (4.0) … but problem is when you sending your photo it compresses your photo to very very low quality. It almost not readable what you have on the photo …
The guy who wrote this article update information soooo slow! Go on the Apple website and read the iPhone 3.0 software description or at least watch the 3GS video presentation! 3.0 software has MMS in it ! It’s just AT&T user doesn’t allow to use it. How come an articke like this can be posted on iPhonebuzz website …
To Tom : come on man read the date of those article I’m living in Canada with 3 iPhone 1 3G 2 3GS on Rogers wireless and I have MMS ON ALL OF THEM ! Go on apple website and read iPhone DESCRIPTION or MANUAL good luck ;)
to Anti-Noodle : can you turn your iPhone around and read? Made in China ;))
Hey guys, can’t we all get along?? There really is no need for things like “Suck my balls” and all the other hostile advances here.
As long as we are ALL in agreement that Apple in general, and the iPhone sucks ass, making people wait 2 years for a basic function like MMS amongst other things, we will all be on the same side!
Love,
Wrenchy.
Proud Android HTC Dream phone owner, and part-time troll!
Although I was caught out at first, the source article opens with “Though AT&T customers are still waiting for multimedia messaging”…..fairly clear.
Here in Australia you can have an iPhone on any one of 5 carriers, all with MMS. Just as well it wasn’t developed and released here first….
Kevin and Nudel, you’re both idiots. Do you know what the word “imply” means? When the person made the article, it was implied this was meant for AT&T subscribers only since we are the only ones without MMS.
If someone makes an article titled “Voice Control Over Bluetooth Coming Soon”, do they really have to say “For Those of You Not On the 3.1 Beta”? Get real.
Ricko is correct: the *source* article makes it clear, as it should. My point all along is simply that the re-blogged article on *this* site does not.
thanks
This article was posted on 12 Aug? This is old news and a topic that has been discussed to death. Time to move on.
Hey Kevin…..speaking of not reading, pretty sure I didn’t say “made” in my comments!
And YOU obv. missed the words in front of “made in China” where it says “designed in California”
Next time you wanna be slick…..get your shit right!
I don’t think Kevin was trying to catch you out Anti-Noodle (sic). He was merely indicating that while it may have been designed, developed and released in the US (first), the units themselves are still manufactured in China.
Perhpas it was a subtle jibe at the fact that you even mentioned ‘developed/released’ in the US at all since neither point has any relevance to the conversation.
nudel,
If the article doesn’t apply to you, then disregard it. Everyone knows good and well that the USA is the only country that doesn’t have MMS, therefore you SHOULDN’T need your hand held and have someone explain to you that this article refers to American iPhone users. As soon as you saw “MMS may be coming soon”, you should have not only been uninterested in the post (as you already have MMS apparently), but you should have also known THEN & THERE that the post was talking about America.
No one is acting like other countries don’t exist. Grow up and get out of your feelings. Suck MY dick.
It comes down to good writing really.
“AT&T may bring MMS to iPhone soon” would have been better. It would have immediately cuaght the attention of its intended audience and also would have ensured that I simply moved on.
… just like the current post (yay!): http://www.iphonebuzz.com/mms-finally-gets-a-launch-date-from-att-048368.php
