The iPhone is going to be one of the first phones to have motion-sensing technologies right? It has the accelerometer technology to detect when the phone is being held in portrait or landscape mode, and changes the display to match. It also has a proximity sensor that can detect when a user holds it up to their ear. I'm sure you already knew all of that, but what about the other phones that already have motion-sensing abilities?

The good people over at Cnet have put together a list of motion-sensing phones. You'll notice that this is not something new to the world. In fact, several of these phones have been on the market since 2005.

It is interesting to see how a technology such as this can be on the market for years without the majority of the public even knowing it's even out there. Granted, many mobile phone enthusiasts have known about these phones for some time, but the average Joe probably hasn't. But with the release of the iPhone, it is something that will likely be seen by many such people.
