Some iPhone 3GS buyers were experiencing that their new Apple device has lower battery life, the Los Angeles Times reports, saying it "has trouble making it through a workday without a rest stop at the electrical outlet."

iPhone-3G-S-r3media-1-r3media-580x419Take Gary Ng, 27, one of them.

"If people are committing $1,000 a year for two years to use a 3GS, I would definitely expect my battery to last a lot longer," said Ng, a loyal Apple fan who runs an iPhone blog from his home in Vancouver, Canada.

According to IFixit.com, repairing company which specializes in Apple products, the 3GS's battery life was about 15% smaller than the original iPhone. But Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison emphasized, battery consumption is highly dependent on what applications and features are used.

I bought a 3GS two weeks ago and have been having battery problems similar to the ones above. After doing some testing, I found that the battery meter sticks. It may stick at 40%, it may stick at 60%. I found that when I reset the phone yesterday, the battery indicator came back at 87% from 52% before the reset. I believe the problem is a faulty battery indicator. I’ve reset it twice since when the indicator stuck with true battery indication returning each time. I even gave it a time test. The phone ran well over 7 hours where it was only doing 3 at the most before. If it doesn’t stick, it will give you the 20% warning when you probably still have 60-70% in your battery. This also explains why the battery charges so fast. It’s already mostly charged before you begin. I believe the problem is not hardware but faulty software when it comes to battery level indication.

  2. My iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 battery problem. I found it too ovious after reading email. It’s seems like Mail application eating my battery.

I have 6 mail server setup on my iphone.

    Apple, please investigate

    regards

I upgraded my 2G (EDGE) iPhone to the 3.1.2. FW the other day and I’m quite surprised as to how fast the battery is drained. Prior to the upgrade (my iPhone is 2 years old) the battery would last up to 4 days (a few exceptional 5 days stints), but never less than 2 full days.

I will go back to the 3.0. FW to see if this fixes the problem as I ended up having to charge the iPhone at home, in the car and in the office…
