Rumor: Apple releasing touchscreen video iPod next month?

by Vincent Nguyen on July 11, 2007

Due to the recent iPhone Nano fiasco with JP Morgan, I don’t really want to say too much about this rumor other than the fact that Wintek is supposedly supplying touchscreen panels for Apple’s forthcoming video iPod. It’s highly possible the new video iPod may become available sometime in August, according to sources within the Taiwan supply. Well, that’s all for now, I promise you’ll be the first ... continued »

iPhone WiFi directory launched; but where’s the shared wireless schemes?

by Chris Davies on July 11, 2007

Whether the iPhone has disabled 3G inside it or not, what's true right now is that for mobile use you're generally stuck with EDGE.  I can't imagine there's any iPhone owner who wouldn't take advantage of a free WiFi hotspot if they could, and now there's apparently a really simple way to find what's available within range.   JiWire [via ModMyiPhone] is a straightforward WiFi finder, which seems to be a directory of known locations ... continued »

iPhone Twitter apps put head-to-head

by Chris Davies on July 11, 2007

Are you a Twitterer?  I've not quite fallen for the idea of constantly updating a network of semi-strangers with my movements (bowel or otherwise) at every opportunity through the day, but there's no doubting that for some it's an addictive process.  Of course, several iPhone apps have sprung up to satisfy your need to periodically Twitter, and iPhone Central have been good enough to pit two of the competitors against ... continued »

Copy files to or from iPhone using iPhoneDrive

by Vincent Nguyen on July 11, 2007

One thing the iPhone does not currently let you do natively is use it for file storage. Thank goodness for iPhoneDrive. This is a decent solution if you need to copy files to or from your iPhone. Transferring files is pretty straightforward; just drag and drop. The only drawback is it won’t give you full access to the entire file system. The application offers a familiar Mac OS X ... continued »

Is ultra-portable MacBook Pro Apple’s next headline-grabber?

by Chris Davies on July 11, 2007

Wouldn't it be nice to be responsible for "redefining the standards of ultra-portable computing"?  Well, MacScoop are reporting - thanks to these omni-present "trusted sources" we hear so much about - that Apple are moving toward announcing an incredibly light, thin laptop with a 12-inch screen that will round out the MacBook Pro range.  And we really are talking thin and light: estimates of just 0.6 - 0.7-inches thick, with ... continued »

iPhone uber-review roundup

by Chris Davies on July 11, 2007

There've been a few big-scale reviews of the iPhone over the past week or so, and I wanted to take some time to flag a few up that I enjoyed reading.  Ars Technica have posted up their magna-opus and are sending some pretty serious love Apple's way with an 8 out of 10 rating.  Don't get me wrong, they're not all positive - most frustrating to them seem to be ... continued »

iPhone battery myth clarified: 80% power left after 400 charges

by Chris Davies on July 11, 2007

Do bloggers take things too literally? That's one of the questions being asked today, as various news sources shuffle their feet nervously and say "um" a lot when faced with how they've reported the iPhone's battery life. The key is how the iPhone's battery life was initially reported - as being good for 300 - 400 charge cycles after which it would need replacing - and how something ... continued »
