The Evolution of the Smart Phone?! Not Quite…

by Vishnu on January 27, 2007

I'm not quite sure how the Apple iPhone ended up on this list. While it's lovely to see the progression of the various Palm OS, Pocket PC, and Blackberry models, can we agree once and for all that the iPhone is not meant to be a Smart Phone, or Smartphone, in the traditional sense? It is a Media Phone! eWeek labs has this to say about the upcoming device: The Future: Among ... continued »

Apple’s original patent on the Apple Phone

by Vincent Nguyen on January 26, 2007

It looks like the iPhone isn't Apple's first attempt at creating a phone. The company filed a patent back in 1982 and listed on December 10, 1985. From what I can see of the drawings, this phone would have been hard to carry around, and looks absolutely nothing like any phones I've seen on the market. Did I mention that it looks like an apple? I’ve made some comments regarding ABI research’s position on why the Apple iPhone should not be called a smartphone. Personally, I could care less what category it’s in, simply because it’s redefining the mobile industry. The way I see it, it’s the remote control for my life. How about you? At the end of the day, it allows me to make phone calls, listen to music, ... continued »

Vincent has asked me to come on board because he knows that as excited as I get about new technology, I am not one to jump on any product's train just because it happens to be produced by a particular company or because it runs a particular operating system. I think he gets a kick out of the fact that I don't use OSX (yet!), and that I was content ... continued »

Cramer: Buy the Apple iPhone and get 18-months of service free

by Vincent Nguyen on January 25, 2007

Should this rumor of Cingular giving 18-months of service away for free is true; it's definitely the first! It's usually the other way around where customer gets the phone for free and pay up the ass for service. This hot iPhone rumor was brought to you by compliments of CNBC analyst Jim Cramer (he's a nut, have you ever watch him on "Mad Money"?), who suggests Cingular/ATT will sidestep subsidization of ... continued »
