We’ve heard predictions of how many iPhones will be sold in’07 and ’08, but how many will Apple sell by 2009?

According to the research firm Piper Jaffray, they think that in 2009 Apple will be able to sell 45 million iPhones. That’s a huge number, but they think it’s within reach. They speculate that the iPhone will reach a price point of $338 by then. Since it’s a combo device (iPod + a phone) people will consider that a reasonable price.
Also factored in is the growth rate of the iPod. Since people will be able to get the same features in the iPhone, they see the growth from the iPod changing into growth for the iPhone. They also cite the strong growth and sales of the RAZR from Motorola, which sold 65 million units in 2006, two years after it was launched.
